It's a little faster to cut to Artesia but we've gone a few different ways just to see something different.
We are not freeway people and if a back road can be taken, we take it.
I agree with that as the freeway makes me a wreck. Give me a back road any day. El Paso even scared one of my friends, and she drives the freeway all the time and all over the country. I even go the back way to Arlington and Ft. Worth to see my kids.

Thanks for your response.

The last time I came back from Texas, I took I-10 to EP...then took the 375 Loop (Transmountain) to 54. I screwed up and turned too early, but I think I'll get it right next time. It's a lot easier than going directly through. I was thinking I wanted 54 NORTH, but it is EAST out of EP, then turns north later.

Default Moving to new Mexico

I currently live in NE Pennsylvania but am considering a move. Since my son lived in New Mexico while in the Air Force, I have visited there several times and really like it. But I am not old enough to retire and I will be on my own. I am wondering about finding work in the secretarial field and being able to make a living. Any thoughts?

I'm glad you asked that because I am in the same single boat as you with secretarial skills. Presently, I work for a school district in Texas in the office although I've also been in the classroom as an Instructional Aide as well has had many secretarial and management jobs in my life. I don't need a whole lot of money to live on and would love to move before I retire. Good luck, and who knows, maybe we'll both end up there one day. It certainly never hurts to dream.

Where in NM did your son live?

Hi All, Though I have considered Timberon, my final choice turned out to be San Antonio, NM near Socorro. Was nice reading your conversations and many of the points apply to my new home. Good luck to all when you get to Timberon

Thanks for the good luck wishes. I am very excited about coming to NM and plan to check out other places as well besides Timberon. I am just so impressed what I've read on the web about this sweet and peaceful place in the mountains. 7 years is a long time to have to wait to move, but I guess in the long run, it will be easier than finding another job. Time will tell.

rainbowrabbits ~ From where did you move?

Apache Flats is on a distinguished road
Hi out there all of you Timberon fans,

My husband and I have bought a wonderful piece of the mountain and will be there in March to start building. We can hardly wait. I have really enjoyed reading all of your questions and answers. I always go to this page when I am getting that need to know what is happening there. We have come by way of San Antonio from Galveston. But, I think we are going to try to come by way of Austin this time. The map says it is shorter - but who knows -fewer miles don't always make for the shortest trip. It usually takes us about 14 hours. I have two cats and a dog. We would like to bring them for the summer, but I am not sure if they will be okay - outside. The dog is large and she stays right with us. The cats are generally pretty good about staying close, but I am not sure about what will happen in the new environment.

Well, again we are champing at the bits to get there. Hope to meet some of you then.

Apache Flats

Canine*Castle: I'm certainly a Backroads Boy myself. Interstates are much the same everywhere, but the lesser highways that go through the small towns is where one can find the real soul of the area. They are much more interesting.

Austin traffic usually does not flow very well. Most of the time, bumper to bumper.
