How cute, a post office of its very own. I like that.
Is it a pretty smooth commute up the mountain or is it like I heard Cloudcroft was, steep, no guard rails, and scary dropoffs?

C*C, There is a roll off box that is set up where everyone drops their trash into. The company brings an empty one and takes the other one regularly. As far as fires (what about around here today) you want to keep your place thinned of under brush and away from your house. The fire dept also has a pit for brush and limbs. They will set it on fire and use it for training every so often. The streets are not paved, and some you see on google where there are no house are not maintaned that much. There are about 300 full timers, and I not sure how many of us want to bees.
Hope this helps a little. --David

Very helpful, and I like the answer. Is there a charge for this?
Yes today was extremely windy and today and tomorrow are supposed to be as well but not quite as bad, warmer though. I know, fires can happen anywhere and usually they're caused by careless people, I do believe. Of course, lightning has been known to cause fires as well. I think the trade for potential fires vs. potential tornadoes is a pretty good one. Oh and then of course to be free from humidity, how totally heavenly.

How is the homeowner's insurance in the Timberon area? In Texas, it's sky high.

Timberon properties
I have been loosely watching the Timberon area for a while and have a few questions, perhaps from the residents there. What about the water system? It seems some properties are on it and some are not. Did it recently get privatized? Has that been good or bad? A large number of lots are usually available on the Otero County tax sales. Are these in more marginal areas or too small to be practical or just unattractive? I worry about medical care in an emergency. Is there an ambulance and medical person in town? Thanks and good luck to all interested parties.

I heard the golf course was public and that people come from around NM to play in Timberon.

Canine*Castle,
To answer your questions, the drive from CC to Timberon is gorgeous and safe. Lots of bikers and bicyclists also.
The trash payment is somewhere around 4 bucks monthly, I think and is included in with your water bill which is around 20 bucks a month and a little more if there full time.
Our homeowners insurance is about the same in NM as it is here in Texas. Both places are a little over 600 bucks each per year.

Harry, There are daily rates of 18 holes for $18 plus $12 for a cart if you want one. R-R, The water lines run down the streets and there is a meter set charge. If you own a lot you have to pay stand by water fee of $25 a year if you don't have a meter. As far as the lots for sale by the county like anywhere if you don't pay your taxes they will auction it off. I wish my home owners in Texas was what it is in NM. I pay $1600 here compared to $500 in Timberon for the same amount of coverage thru the same underwriter. Taxes here are about three times as high as there too. Hope to be there Feb. 8th. And spend our anniversary that week in the mountains.
