Neighborhoods
Canine*Castle: Hey, you have to draw the line somewhere! Nobody wants to live next to a hovel/trash dump. I have been living in a 'historic' neighborhood that is, in my opinion, a bit too snooty and judgemental. At least the neighborhood ass'n is. I'm probably sensitive to it because I'm an amateur radio operator and would like more freedom to put up big antennas. To me, they aren'y "ugly", they can save lives via emergency communications. (Incidentally, I've already found out that Timberon isn't opposed to them.) Anyway, I certainly didn't mean to criticize you.
In any case, you have a perfect right to know what a neighborhood is like before you move into it. I certainly didn't mean for you to think I was casting aspersions your way concerning how you need to "grow up"! I'm the world's most immature 61-year-old, for what that's worth.

I'm sure the folks in Timberon would LOVE the big ham radio antennas. Radio communication in that area is really poor. I would be willing to bet you would get alot of support from the volunteer fire department and might even manage to get some other folks involved.
When you get ready to make the move let me know and I can hook you up with someone who I'm sure would like to see some better communication up there.

Au contraire. I didn't take it as criticism and when I said I need to grow up, I meant it as I'm just a 59 year old kid. Big antennas are not what I'm talking about anyway. That is not trashy. Anything that can benefit the public is something I'm all for.
The neighborhood in which you're living now doesn't sound appealing to me because I don't want to be dictated to either. I totally dislike snooty people and work with some like that. They really need to get over themselves. Even in Podunk, Texas, you'll find the snoots.
I was meaning things like refrigerators or other appliances on the front porch or just plain clutter. Yards full of old cars, trash everywhere, and the like. I'll have to take a photo of what I mean from some of the people's yards near my area. They just remind me of havens for rats.
I'm just a plain and simple gal and like things fairly neat and orderly. I function better than way. All's well.............

Hi:
We have an acre in Timberon & plan on moving there in 2010 - sooner if we win the lottery! We have been over for brief visits - we can't wait to get there. Do you live there or in Alamo? Thanks. btw: the Bear is laying on my desk (all 20 pounds of white fluff - he is a 10-1/2 yr old Bichon)

Too cute, a Bichon on a desk....... I live in Texas and haven't even been to Timberon yet, but I hope to soon. I found the place via the internet. It looks mighty fine, and I can't wait to check it out.

mtncat: Thanks for the encouraging words concerning antennas. It'll be some time before I can move, and I haven't decided where I'm going yet. Somewhere between Timberon and Socorro, most likely. I spent all day today in SKYWARN class, getting a refresher on severe weather and storm spotting.
Canine*Castle: All is well. I didn't take anything you wrote the wrong way; I simply wanted to clarify my own position. No, I wouldn't especially want to live next door to Sanford & Son, with refrigerators and junk in the yard.

Wow, a SKYWARN class. I am so afraid of storms, but it's nice to know there are people like you out there ready to warn the public. Ugh, I already dread the upcoming tornado season. I do have a storm cellar, so that does give me some peace of mind.

Catman, I have never seen anything like old junk in the yards, Maybe a little clutter such as building materials while their working on houses, and for some people that don't live there this may be a protracted thing. A few older ones that may need a little paint (like mine here in TX.) Most places are well kept thought. I did find where there are 575 water meters in Timberon that show some use during the year. With 300 full time residents and 9000 acres it is sparcly populated. C*C, I will join with the majority about contacting Michelle with Roberts Reality she is well knowledged about the area, And a very good person !!!

Junk in yards
Pipeweld: There seems to be a discrepancy between you and C*C concerning how much debris is out in people's yards in Timberon. I suppose I'll just have to come and see for myself.
I hope to take a grand tour of all the places I'm interested in sometime this year. By the way, my 'chateau' in Fort Worth needs a paint job too!

Okay, guys, I'm being too fussy. There really are some Sanford and Sons yards (great description, by the way ~ I never even thought about that old TV show) around not far from where I live but luckily, I don't have that in my neighborhood but a short drive will get me to some. I guess I'm just so sick of looking at it when I take a drive, I was just wondering about Timberon.
The more I read, the more I gather that people in Timberon are pleased with the beauty of the area and don't want to do anything to spoil it. I like that. Hey, there may be a few days when my grass is too tall because I can't muster up the energy to go out in the heat to take care of it, so I let it go a little longer than I should.
What Pipeweld describes sounds just fine to me. I'm sorry if I came off as a perfection nut as I'm not one, I can assure you. I am just so into beauty of the land and hate to see people ruin any land in any area.
I will definitely contact Michelle, but it looks like I'm now going to have to wait until the summer to see the area. That may be better though so I can escape the brutal heat in TX for a little while.
