Pinus,
Deming Ranchettes was a huge ranch back in the early 60's that was split up in lots (mostly 1/2 acre) and sold for $249. per lot. $10 down and $10 per month, no interest. Many people, myself included bought them sight unseen as a novelity. Most are still worth about $249. or less. Some, but not many have been nicely improved on. Some have junk yards, meth factories, and old junky trailers; hence the new zoning laws the County is putting in place. I am sure that others can give a more accurate description than this.

Growth in New Mexico
I'm not a Richardson fan, nor a rich liberal, but have lived in several States that should have limited growth.
Take a look at Florida... Once a haven for those wanting quiet beauty, now so overcrowded, and expensive we were forced to move after 20 years, and head back to Arizona. Here we are finding the same thing. Our little bedroom comunity has grown 400% in just 5 years. Now a crowded place where people from all over, either forgot manners, or never had them..
Good for New Mexico.. Keep it quiet and clean.

sustainable community development
The cooperative spirit is essential and can build community. We have been working on the concept for years and have the tools necessary to make it happen

Yes, I believe one acre lots are buildable with an advanced liquid waste septic system while two acre lots only require a conventional liquid waste system. However, I've heard there is now a sunset clause that allows 1/2 acres to be developed until 2008 and a variance process in place for these 1/2 acre lots after 2008.
I'll probably end up offering to buy the adjacent lot. I own Lot 17 in Unit 7 Block 2. I would be interested in Lot 16 in Unit 7 Block 2 or Unit 1 in Block 7 Unit 2 but don't know who the owners are. I'm going to try to get the information from the assessor's office and go from there. Good luck to all.

I don't care to move to a place that has a rapidly growing population...Fort Worth is growing like crazy, like Austin, and it's not a good thing, in my opinion, unless you're making a lot of money because of it. On the other hand, I suppose it's a bad idea to move to a town that is dying on the vine, either.

Luna County Property Taxes
Hello. I purchased a lot in that very same place this spring. I need to pay my property taxes but I don't know how or where to do it.
Can anyone here tell me where to pay my Luna County property taxes and whatever other taxes need to be paid for these lots?
Thanks for any help!

Contact the Luna County Assessor. They will send you a tax bill.

The Luna County website seems to be in transition as of 7/26/07. It used to have all the phone numbers and listings, but it's a lot more vague now:
Home Page (broken link)
Even the State directory is missing Luna:
http://www.newmexico.gov/government.php#county
I believe the number for the Luna County Assessor is 505.546.0404. They should be able to direct you to the proper department.

Water Water Water....I am repeating myself, talked about this on another post, sorry--- water in Luna County is mined from the Mimbres Aquifer, a river that went subterranean....Deming has the largest agriculture community in the state, 95% of its water going to agriculture; the new twin tower gas driven, water cooled 65 MW generation station has it's own water source and may suck the aquifer dry according to some hydro testimony. Great examples of passive solar, off the grid living are represented here. If the ranchette people got together a strong representation of sustainable desert living could be achieved. If you bought your Ranchette property from Dennis Mack, he would strongly agree.
