Funny you should mention that. It wasn't too long ago they were talking about a couple towns down south being rained on by a 'milky substance'. People were wigging out (whatever that entails) with fears of government experiments or agricultural pesticides gone wrong. Visions of giant two headed horned toads careening through town were flashing through everyone's head.
Alright, that last one might have just been me, but you get the point.
Anyway, I don't have to tell you what it was...it was white powdery dust from dry lakes in southern Arizona that blew over as dust clouds and triggered rain when they got to New Mexico. I'd never heard of it til then and just now with the story you related.

Here in Alamogordo, the white sands and dust blow....we had a minor one yesterday, but not bad. There has been only one really bad duststorm since I've been here, and that was in early March. We were driving to Tularosa...and visibility wasn't bad. Most days are sunny and clear.

I served time at Tech, too, and remember the Wells Spring ritual of duct taping the windows to keep the red dirt infusion to a minimum... and red mud rain when a fast moving storm blew in...
Three days of high winds around LV has us a little batty, but at least the wind is from the west, so minimal dirt- just Wal-Mart bags blooming in the trees...

It was much more interesting when it was toxic carcinogens that would make your skin fall right off from the environmentally reckless copper mines in the area.

Ya know; if you take new plastic (or paper) bags home, they just *breed* in your closet.
It's best to keep a few in the car and use them again and again and again and ....
I have some bags I was using more than fifteen years ago (and those are just the one's I can specifically identify).
