Not having seen or heard from her in several months, I got this response from a recent email inquiring about her:
Hi, ... My name is Janice... and I am a friend of Cathy's...I am sorry to tell you that Cathy passed away mid-Sept. She was diagnosed with a very aggressive form of liver cancer, and by the time it was diagnosed, it was too far progressed.
I know there are others in the New Mexico forum who enjoyed her posts for the many years she participated in this, and other, City Data forums.
Oh, no, that is terrible news. I am one on this forum who chatted with Cathy4017 now and then. IIRC she lived a while in Alamogordo and didn't like the terrible heat, so she moved up to Farmington for a while. And she didn't like the restaurant fare in Alamo, either. Her posts were always honest and I always looked forward to reading them. Very sad to hear of this. There's someone I have been missing on the Washington state city-data forum and I one day wanted to have coffee with him in Port Townsend, WA. Sadly we haven't heard from him in about a year so I fear the worst, unless he changed his nickname and didn't share that fact with us.
Sad to hear, was just talking to her a few months back about her move to Alpine and mine to Houston.
Sorry to see youre gone, glad youre not in pain anymore.
I was just thinking about Cathy this week. I'm so sorry to hear this very sad news. Cathy and I have spoken often in the Texas forums. I believe she was originally from the rural Texas High Plains. She and I both shared a love for the dry desert climates and we both loved New Mexico.
I believe she was originally from the rural Texas High Plains.
She was born in San Angelo and grew up in Ozona, and graduated from Ozona's high school. She did live in the panhandle while attending Texas Tech in Lubbock. Following college, she taught for 2 years in Rankin before moving to Midland. The majority of her working career was spent working for oil interests in Midland for 30 years before moving to Alamogordo in retirement.
Sad news. My condolences to her friends and family.
