NM now #49 of 50 states in unemployment rate. Only coal dependant West VA is worse. Pretty bad run for the NM economy there now for a long time. Any hope it will reverse in this lifetime?

That looks about correct, don't have a clue where you got that...

From the Unemployment Rates for States and D.C. U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, Oct. 2015:
42 ALABAMA 5.9
42 MISSISSIPPI 5.9
44 OREGON 6.0
45 ARIZONA 6.1
46 LOUISIANA 6.2
47 ALASKA 6.4
48 DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA 6.6
48 NEVADA 6.6
50 NEW MEXICO 6.8
51 WEST VIRGINIA 6.9
I have been to all those places, sometimes only a short time... From that list, I think we will stay retired here in New Mexico...

New Mexico was more middle of pack in terms of unemployment rate around 2008 during the financial crash. But it didn't crash as bad as many parts of the rest of the U.S., but also hasn't recovered at all in the last 7-8 years. It's been really sluggish. Also no recovery in home prices, only more slow declines. Just a very, very sluggish place economically. Pretty bad to be #49, even worse than bottom of the barrel places like Mississippi. I'd like to see what the politicians who have been in office the past 8 yrs have to say about their record on creating jobs.

When your approval rating is consistently 60% there's no need to actually deliver anything.

These stats don't seem to say anything either about how many people have left the state in recent years looking for jobs. They have been leaving by the thousands!

I recently interviewed with a startup in Albuquerque. They said they were interested and told me to hang on while they set up a follow-up interview. After 9 days of waiting I sent them an email and told them to take a hike... Mind you, I have worked all over USA, have a resume to boot and am in a senior position now (and can be anywhere I go). Average turnaround for positions I have been interviewing for is a few days and the recruiters get back to me the same day, ready to fly me out tomorrow. But not in the land of manana.... Not surprised about the economy - unless your brother is the hiring manager, good luck.

On the other hand it might be 60% because something is being delivered.

On the job front I have a daughter in Albuquerque been looking for full time for a couple years now. Not much happening for her even with a couple degrees and some darn good refs.

And what would that be? WHat has the current crop of politicians delivered?

Same thing they've always delivered.

In any case, I can guarantee you Martinez will not last in office past 2018. Term limits.
