The food in New Mexico is not tex-mex, it is New Mexican food, there is a difference, see that remark comes from a non-native New Mexican. That is an insult to our food here.

You sure are right, tex-mex is covered with melted cheese and is usually greasy. New Mexican cuisine is more seasoned and is smothered in red or green chile sauce. When it comes to New Mexican cuisine - there simply is no peer.

I would have said something earlier but I'am still recovering from that bull-whuppin I received a few days ago and I'am layin' low...

Cheers...

Default New Mexico Cuisine Wins Hands Down

I love New Mexican Cuisine. It tastes better to me then tex-mex. Tex-mex always tastes sort of like it came from Hamburger Helper. Also New Mexico's chiles and sauces can't be beat!

I really don't know too much about the other cities mentioned on here except Santa Fe. I live in Los Lunas and I love it. It is south of Albuquerque and only 30 minutes away from it which is nice. So if you like to get out or at least have something close like the mall or the events that come, like the State Fair, then Los Lunas is a pretty nice place. Right off the interstate and pretty much the closest place south that you can be to the city. Because the reservation seperates the 2 places. May wanna consider it...

"Unless you want to live in a house with four locks on your door, bars on your windows, and sleep with a gun under your pillow, avoid Las Vegas. Really bad crime there.[/quote] "

I would suggest you try being a little more open minded about your response to this city. Have you ever lived there? Do you know anyone who personally lives there and has to sleep with a gun under their pillow? I fairly doubt your answer is yes to either question.

You don't like hyperbole to prove a point? Let me try again then:

Las Vegas has INSANELY high crime for such a small city. That is fact.

Default Years Ago In Vegas

My dad lived in Las Vegas, NM for a couple of years and even though it was back in the late 50s he had to fight off kids who were native Las Vegans even though he was a native New Mexican so there you have to be born there in Vegas to be accepted, New Mexican wasn't enough. He had to keep a brick in hand when he went to school. That is how it was in the 50s, I don't know if it has gotten better but I would think it would be worse. That is my take on Vegas baby!

I grew up in Clovis, have lived in California, Texas, and Arkansas and I'm ready to go back to the beautiful, unique Land of Enchantment. I'm considering Artesia. Nice place, friendly people, small town, slower, easier pace and only 150 miles from Lubbock Texas if you really need the big city. Anyone who doesn't appreciate what New Mexico has to offer probably doesn't need to be there.

Angry Moving to NM

We tried Tularosa, near Almagordo. Tried it for a year. We found that if you are not from there, you wern't all that welcome from those who were born there. Transplants like us had to stick with each other from a social perspective. Weather is great, water is terrible. Shopping was so-so, winds blew the White Sands into everything. Jobs that paid more than 5 bucks an hour was hi-end. We visited Silver City thinking it might be a better place to live, only there for 2 days and found the same attitude from many of the locals so we moved back to WY. Tularosa does have fine wines, chilies and pecans! State meal is a chili cheeseburger. Good too!

Default Las Vegas

I am from Las Vegas New Mexico and lived there for 23 years. It does have a high crime rate for such a small town but the town is not THAT bad!! Not everyone that is from there is bad. My husband and I grew up there and did not own a gun or have to sleep with one in our pillows. My husband grew up in the vario, was surrounded by violence but he still completed college and is currently an engineer. We still go home several times a year to visit our family and we still get along well with everyone with no problems. We still have friends that live in bad neighborhoods that do crime and drugs. It is a small town, therefore everybody knows eachother and when newcomers come into the area they are unsure how you will get along with them. It is the people that do not grow up and have a chip on their shoulders that give my home town a bad name. Las Vegas is the kind of town where you just don't look at people the wrong way and don't judge them and you will be fine.
