Default Near Taos

Self sustaining community with solar, veggie gardens, off the grid.

Recently I saw a piece, either on the Weather Channel or National Geographic, about a small community near Taos that was off the grid, houses were made of recycled material, all had large veggie gardens, all had their own custom leachfields/natural septic systems.

A search at WC and NG found no results. I'd be interested in learning more about this town but I'm at a dead end.

Thanks for any leads.

Somewhere around Dixon??? It is a center of organic farming.

Good luck. If you find the answer somewhere else, please let us know.

If you go to
http://www.organicvolunteers.com/far...=&opp_type=&s=

that will link you to an organic farm in Dixon. You might send them a message and see if they know the community you are talking about.

If you look to the right on the screen, you will see links to other organic farms in Dixon or nearby Embudo.

Good luck.

I have been on the internet looking at property for say in the Dixon area. Can't really find any other than one old adobe home. I will visit the Dixon area this September while on my way to the Chama area for vacation. Is there a site with more information on the Dixon area?

Yes, I posted the url in another thread a while back. Dixon, like a lot of areas around here, has an annual art tour. Do a google search for that. Good luck.

SOONERNM is on a distinguished road
I believe what Dwatted Wabbit is referring to is the Earthship community NW of Taos on Highway 64, just west of the gorge bridge.

Search for Mike Reynolds, who is the founder of Earthship Biotecture, on the internet. He is the founder of the Taos Earthship community. Also, Taosearthships.com has a listing of earthships for sale.

I hope this helps.

Here's a link to the Wikipedia site for Dixon:
Dixon, New Mexico - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Dixon Studio Tour is at
Dixon New Mexico Studio Tour

The Cooperative Food Market is at:
The Dixon Cooperative Market Homepage

And Wikipedia for adjacent Embudo:
Embudo, New Mexico - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Incidentally, the BBQ at Sugar's (Embudo) is great. There's a nice restaurant at the old train depot (Embudo), but I forget the name. It's across the Rio Grand from the highway.
