All American Futurity @ Ruidoso Downs
We'll be in Ruidoso the weekend of the All American Quarterhorse Futurity. Does anyone know how soon tickets sell out or how soon one should buy them? Do people dress up for it like they do the Triple Crown of thoroughbred racing? What's the scoop on the big weekend of horse-racing at Ruidoso Downs? We would really like to know!

I'd bet you my last nickel that the ladies do HAT DAY. They have it at the track in Hobbs and she's won two years in a row there. She and her husband also race their horses in Ruidoso and if they have hat day there...she'll probably be in the thick of it. If I find out anything from her about it, I'll post it here.

I have an email into my sis in hobbs....she'll get back to me asap. They have a horse farm in hobbs and a condo in ruidoso...she goes there often in good weather.
They own Rocky Gulch...he's the first new mexico bred horse to win a million bucks ...I guess from racing in N M. All I know is..he's one of the finest thorougbreds to come out of NM in years. SO, she should know most of the info you need. They also raised quarter horses when they first got started.
I"m off to celebrate my birthday.....I'll check back in a few.

THIS IS WHAT MY SISTER SENT..... in response to your questions.
All American Futurity is Memorial Weekend of every year. General Admission is free. Need to call Ruidoso Downs Racetrack after the track opens this year on May 23rd. You can get seats in the Turf Club in advance when available. That number is 575-378-4140. If you want seats in the Jockey Club that might be available, that number is 575-378-4446. Dress is dressy casual as we call it. Some ladies wear hats, usually western style. They don't do "Derby Dress". This will be more Quarterhorse style than Thoroughbred ( as in Kentucky Derby). Also need to make hotel accommodations early as it is the biggest weekend of the year. Ruidoso Chamber of Commerce is (575)378-8564. Hope this helps

This is great info, ArkLexee, thank you so much! We're renting a cabin and will already be there. I never thought I'd get to see the All American until we landed the cabin for the summer. We used to live in AR, where I did a lot of barrel racing and pole bending and loved my quarter horse!
