This link shows Arkansas to be worse than New Mexico, but only by one.

So are there flooring stores in Alamogordo?
Yes, there are at least three, not including Lowe's and Home Depot.

Considering the reduction in the real estate sales market that leads to people staying in their own homes I would think that a floor covering installer with his own equipment could set up shop in Alamogordo and serve both the local and the Las Cruces markets. Check the yellow pages of both places to get a preliminary idea of the existing competition. The respective Chambers of Commerce may also be helpful.

lol....no not quite as it is the White Sands Missle Range between both cities as nothing can be built on the range as they test fire missles and laser technology there for all 4 branches of the military.

If your husband is skilled at flooring then he should have no problem as Alamo has been building houses and subdivisions as lots of retirees moving in keeps the construction industry busy there and also at Holloman AFB they are building all new housing units in a 2 or 3 year project on base with lots of construction there too.

Default Our June Visit!

Well we were able to visit Alamogordo in June and I absolutely fell in love with the views. The first night we were there I sat by the hotel window in awe of the wonderful sunset! It was hot, but as I suspected, nothing like the heat and humidity in Arkansas. The thing that got to me was that I am so use to the humidity that the dry air caused my to have nose bleeds daily...YUCK! Alamogordo was smaller then I expected. My husband kept telling me that it was small, but the numbers online did not tell the same story. We spent three days there and really enjoyed our time, but did not get the "this is home" feeling. We will for sure be making more trips to Alamo for recreation though. I want to thank everyone who gave me such good information, you were all such a good help!

Thumbs up Glad to have helped!

So, is Alamo off your list to relocate?

My husband was also there for a week in June, and loved it. He said that Alamo is much greener than the NM landscape to the north (he came from Las Vegas, NM). He felt he could breathe better, and was able to take long hikes that he has never done here in Iowa! He thoroughly enjoyed the landscapes, and having the mountains so close - although he was amazed that at 100+ in Alamo, he almost needed a jacket in Cloudcroft! He scouted out several places, and was impressed with everything. He's a country boy, so it would probably be a little piece of land on the outside of town we'd be looking to eventually buy, but he got an idea of what was where, and we're moving forward with relocating to Alamo.

PS - gave my notice at work this week - I'm done the 25th!

WOW....Cindy sounds as you are fired up about the move . Whenever you guys settle in and all check out the rural area from Alamo south (Golf Course area) to Oliver Lee State Park which is about 10 miles as you'll see lots of homes in a rural setting out there. Mainly dirt roads and houses or trailers on an acre or two of land and some have Corrals with a horse or two etc...as it's very spread out in that area.
