Plaza in Las Vegas

I love the Las Vegas plaza and it is authentic and historic, not a theme park. But don't confuse the architecture with southernwestern styles. IMO -- Las Vegas is authentic for the period when Anglo styles came down the Santa Fe trail or the AT&SF railroad.
Everybody should see that town -- I'd bet a lot of New Mexico looked like that at one time.
And it is undergoing a nice revival with the old Plaza hotel restored and several excellent restaurants. A bunch of movies have been filmed there.

The Ute Lake Ranches are not in the Logan Village limits--yet. There is a blacktop road in from US54, and they are working on a road which will follow the new water line in to connect with Logan through the South Shore properties. Obviously there are no trees there now, as they are still bulldozing cactus and building streets. However, there will be trees as soon as they get them planted and watered.
Ute Lake Ranches and other developers are pushing property values up rapidly around Logan. South Shore, which I consider to be much more appealing than the Ute Lake Ranches is almost sold out now. There are a couple houses there which are for sale, and they are a steal compared to the Ute Lake Ranches properties.
Conchas is a mud hole. Always was, and always will be. The Arch Hurley Irrigation district keeps it drained. It will never hold water. If you are looking for a mud hole to park a trailer by, Conchas is a cheap place to go. Arch Hurley owns senior water rights on Conchas water, and they drain it every year.
The developer told me that they are wanting to get up several hundred houses this year. I know that the concrete plant has 6 trucks running constantly. I think that they have adequate financing now and that it is going to go. It will take a while but it will go. If they identify with Logan, the ULR will be a success. If they identify with Tucumcari, then it will be a bust, as Tucumcari is a virtual hell hole.
In fact, I am contemplating a move and have a nice 1560 square foot home in the village limits on the south side which was built in 2000, that I am considering selling.
I can be reached by my profile email.

Just curious about your comment on Logan green lighting the project and Tucumcari being a hell hole. Can you elaborate on it?

It is all in the politics. Logan is on the lake and is growing leaps and bounds. Logan is a community pretty much made up of people from outside of Quay County who bring in progress and fresh ideas even though they are conservative by nature.
Tucumcari is inbred and is visibly dying by the day. Tucumcari has about 20 "boards" for various organizations. The same 15 people set all those boards. No progress happens unless the proper names benefit from those projects. It is like Little Chicago.
The developers of Ute Lake Ranches have chosen to haul all their materials in from other places rather than deal with Tucumcari. The only local business that they are doing is concrete, but that comes from Logan.

eye of the beholder
If you want to get out of the big city and look at some big sky, this is one place to do it.

and those houses? yech
If I was at Ute Lake Ranch I'd keep my eyes on the sky. Imagine this photo with houses built with the landscape in mind, nestled, yet enough height for views- tastfully. I'm sad that the view in that photo may end up having a bunch of suburb- exurb mini mansions. I'd think I'd want to just look at the sky, maybe wear some bifocals with the bottom half of the glasses blackened. Nothing pleasant about the future there if I had to look at those homes. It reminds me of a someone I know who would love that- he is loud and brash.

Reason: want to add the word 'quality' to housing materials and design-the posted houses look like they were buying sq.ft and stucco.

Better in Logan than anywhere I would want to live. Think the developers have enough money to buy the water so they have a senic lake and not a mudhole to view?.

Hope
So they build the McMansions, plant trees, put in lawns, finish that golf course -- put down the fertilizers and pesticides?? -- then it rains and ???
I know a town in Virginia that built a reservoir to increase their water supply -- but the town fathers weren't smart enough to buy or zone the land around it. People built all around it -- now you can't drink the water out of the lake and the town is worse off than when it all started.
I hope the decision makers around Ute Lake are smarter.

resource for tasteful houses- 'Dwell' magazine
Wow, is this magazine got it all over on design. And the styles do not necessarily look liked they cost and more, and maybe less, than the over the top houses posted in the previous Tawanda_9One5 discussion earlier.
