I wasn't kidding when I said I'd actually researched it:

Right, but again; they're talking about no snakes at all. Most people aren't afraid of garter snakes, and there are plenty of areas in the Lower 48 that have no poisonous snakes, only harmless little garter snakes. OTOH, maybe the OP has a phobia of all snakes, no matter how small and harmless.

OP?

Dear all

Grateful thanks for each one of you for responding to my
Question. Now I feel kinda comfortable at the thought of
living in NM.

I'm not trying to be argumentative here, but the article I linked to was speaking of POISONOUS snakes specifically (look at the title), and there are many more articles like it if you google it. This one is even more specific:

However I am terrified of snakes.

Is there any snake free zone there to go home to rest without being terrified of snake invasion into home/apartment?

Is snake removal from housing common in Los Alamos?
It is a shame that I am terrified of snakes.

Please advise.
As far as snakes all of NM has snakes. Snakes are no problem as you might see one at night and you need to have a light to be sure you keep away from them. Been here 14 years and yet to see a snake in southern NM desert.

On the West Coast, the snakes listed are mostly desert snakes. There are vast areas in those states that have no dangerous snakes. No urban areas outside the desert zones have them, either. That's what I was referring to.
