I stayed at the Blue Swallow for a night about eight years ago. It was very nice. The rooms are very small but immaculate. Tucumcari is like a time machine to the 1950's. I like it a lot!

That'd be cool.. Motel, diner, or antiques. I have a 60 Impala I could park outside, and have oldies music playing. I will definetely be going down there this June. A road trip is what I want for my birthday. And no place would be better to spend it than Route 66 (or the Bahamas ). Ive got lots to think about. There are alot of things to do in New Mexico if you like peaceful places.

Default Toad Tripping

terra nova: Toad tripping? LOL! Funny!

It sounds like you'll have a good time. Tucumcari is a cool place, IMO. I love the whole Route 66 thing, starting with the song (also, the Theme from Route 66 that was mentioned earlier). Have a burger at The Route 66 Diner in Albuquerque if you get the chance.

I heard that the owner of the old San Jon Motel is looking to sell out. I don't have a name or number or anything else.

I am back. I had to make the trip too quick, but plan to go again in June. I stayed at the Blue swallow in Tucumcari. It has been fixed up 40's style right down to the last detail. Immaculate rooms. Bill and Teri are the current owners and very friendly. I was very impressed with it. For alot of the rest of town it was sad. The Sands Dorsey is in danger of being torn down. It caught fire. It was a drug store and soda fountain I believe. ALOT of gas stations are closed due to the $@*! gas price hikes. I looked at a building with great antique store potential. The real estate agent said it was $35,000 and he didnt care whether he sold it or not. I heard some rich people from Colorado are coming there. I hope they consider the towns history and potential to attract tourists rather than gutting it and setting up condos. On my next trip I hope to check out Gallup. More folks there. Maybe my antique store would make it there. Close to the 4 corners... Anyone know much about Gallup? I want to buy an adobe style house in the country where I can have a couple horses and my old cars. Im really hoping to find something on Route 66. Crossing my fingers and prayin' real hard...

Good luck and keep looking. I understand the adobe in the country and the old cars. I think these gas pices are going to really hammer tourism this summer. Maybe it won't be so bad if wages catch up with costs over the next few years.

At this rate, it won't be long until our money is almost worthless, with pennies like yen. I hope all the motels don't go out of business.

terra nova: A '60 Impala? Cool! I remember them well.
