Any of the state beaches in Oregon. Inexpensive and beautiful.

Catch the Southwest Chief at 4pm in Albuquerque. Arrive LAX 8am. Catch the Pacific Surfliner south to San Diego. Arrive 2pm. Catch a shuttle to the Surfer Beach Hotel. You can find great deals for this one online. Eat, drink, be merry. Rinse and repeat train ride.

$1500 tops, including the train.

If you are looking for just beaches, there are some beautiful white sand dunes in southern NM that go on for miles. Not much wave action, however.

LOL @ domino.

NM has plenty of beaches but pretty scarce on oceans. I think the OP has the wrong state.

GulF Shores is a nice choice. A very family friendly beach. The sugar white sand beaches are great to relax on.

An hours drive from Mobile, Alabama if you want to get in to the city for some more major things or check out the history.

I think this request is for future reference...after the Big One hits California and takes Arizona with it into the depths of the Pacific. Lordsburg: Surfer Capitol of New Mexico!

The other possibility is global warming melting the ice caps and the sea level rising. But I'm at 6,000 feet -- I don't think that anybody is projecting that much of a rise in the sea level.

But seriously -- I suspect that the Gulf Coast is the best area. I don't think Myrtle Beach would be any better -- and the travel expense back to South Carolina would seem to be more. (Or are we talking about a different Myrtle Beach?)

Is there anything in nearby Mexico??
