Seeking Joy ....i see you mentioned Las Ventanas and Hunters Ridge apts.....

Both are super new and nice. I'd take Las Ventanas as it's right up by the mountain and also if you work at Gerald Champion well your up on Scenic Dr and can take it all the way over to Gerald Champion which is also on Scenic.....

Default Silver City and Area

What i remember about Hurley and Bayard around Silver City is the Streams were polluted with Copper and when it would rain the Tools would Copper Coat immediately maybe because of he Smelters in Hurley which are no longer there. I was out in that area workin for several weeks that was about 25 years ago. Just recently they had White rain like milk on Windshields of cars im not sure if there was ever a Satisfactory explanation for that. Other then that its a Beautiful area with Mountains and forests and wonderful people. Albuquerque and Santa Fe are over 300 miles away from Silver City. pintada kid at webtv.net

I'm too lazy to investigate, but I wouldn't be surprised if Phoenix and Tucson were closer to Silver City than Albuquerquer and Santa Fe are.

According to my mapping software: Silver City to:

Phoenix 285
Tucson 201
ABQ 235
SF 298

The only route I altered from what it gave was Tucson, a cut-across on 90 instead of interstate.

Exclamation Decision Made

As of Friday, I was informed by my A-Town future employer, that they needed to recant on their original offer....by a little more than 10K!!!!! HR came back and said they actually couldn't meet the official offer that my future Boss there originally proposed for me, when I was out there visiting.

Um, NO. I'm pretty much appalled that this professional entity has such egregiously poor communication infrastructure. I sure hope this isn't a statewide/small NM community-type of phenomenon, 'cause I was not impressed by experiencing this. Oh, well. I'm a bit down. So much for my Alamo.

On to Silver City! Tell me if I'll enjoy it, please. I want to feel better about all of this, especially since my A-Town choice folded.
Hiking? Exactly where? Are there lakes or rivers for water activities, like kayaking or swimming? Can I economically own a horse? Young people (late 20s-early 30s?)? What are the grocery/clothing/retail outlets there? Is there a Super-WalMart (please??) ? What about excellent Family Practice docs, who care about their patients? What's the healthcare/hospital reputation there? What's it like there in the summertime? Winter weather frigid?? I need to rent...Where do I live?? Good, clean, (scenic?) reasonably sized apartment suggestions, please.

As for cost-of-living, I'll be making around 52-53K, so I'm hoping I could do okay there on that, as I'm single. I'd like to own a place/some property for animals, eventually.

THANKS, EVERYONE!!!

Don't panic. If you are into the outdoors, Silver has about everything that Alamo has except skiing. The Gila wilderness is huge. If you are young and healthy, you don't really need to worry about extensive medical care. At your salary you should live quite comfortably in Silver City. I think you will like it, even if it is not your first choice.

Yes! There is one. Not much of anything else, however.

Seeking Joy....most of the activities in and around thew Silver City area are the ''Rugged '' recreation more than the ''Tradional'' recreation if that makes any sense?

Most of the lakes there while beautiful i.e. Lake Roberts, Wall Lake and Snow Lake are fishing lakes and not jetski or motor boating type. The Gila River is an awesome wild river for Fly Fishing etc...but not deep enough to swim. There are tons of Campgrounds in the region.

Hope all goes well for there !!!
