You know, I was pondering this possibility about a month ago as I took my son and his friend on a hike up through Baylor Canyon. If an adult mountain lion had ever gotten hold of us, it would have been 'game, set, match'. That is very unnerving. I wonder what the range for mountain lion is in the area.
All over the west! I expect the Mountain Lion (Puma) will be driven out of their southern part of the range by El Tigre (Jaguar). Something has to keep the deer, coyote and stray dog population down.

I use to know this... I think its somewhere up toward 100 miles. However, my memory is sometimes shoddy, and this would have been a Minnesota lion range--don't know if it would be different for one in the SW. I do know they have large territories.

As stated above, this mountain lion thing occurs throughout the West, even in populated areas, although it's pretty unlikely except at the fringe interface between built up areas and undeveloped areas.
