For what it's worth, it seems to me that South Central NM and Northwest NM are both more populous than Southeast NM. The population of Dona Ana County is greater than Chaves, Lea, Eddy, and Roosevelt combined. Throw Otero county into SC NM and Curry county into SE, and SC is still more populous. In NW NM, San Juan, McKinley, and Rio Arriba counties are at least as populous as SE NM. SC and NW areas are both growing at a faster rate than SE as well.
I am not saying that an amusement park won't work, just questioning your assertion.
southeastern nm consists of these counties according to this source and other sources i have read throughout the years..and yes your right...southeastern nm is growing at a slower rate but its growing!!
so lets just wait and see what happens, all you roswell haters..!!
Not a Roswell hater. In fact i'd rather be in Roswell than Carlsbad which is pretty much a hollow town with absolutely nothing in terms of amenities and therefore nil growth. My worse experience in Roswell has been at the home depot. I refuse to shop there anymore and drive to Hobbs for much better service and level of competency.
so hear is the latest news on the alien apex rosort theme park......the man with the dream to open up an alien theme park in roswell is an engineer and rollercoaster and themepark fanatic living in tampa. He thought of an alien themed attraction, an indoor rollercoaster called "The alien abduction" which plans to break 3 world records.. He has approached major themepark builders, major ride manufacturers, major players in the themepark business,, he recieved alot of positive feedback , he was told he had an excellent idea but the only way it would work out is to create a whole alien based themepark instead of just one attraction. They told him the first thing to do is have a feasibility study done to determine if it would be a moneymaker. He then approached the roswell city government who loved his idea and found him the money for the feasibility study .A study was done and determined that it would be viable in roswell. Next step get the governors support, roswell city govt., meets with governor twice, it sounds like Bill supports the idea. Next step is to come up with a cost analysis , design plan, etc. etc.. which will cost 245,000 which is going to the 2007 legislature in santa fe,,, Then the investors come in, this is a billion dollar theme park..!!
so far this idea has gotton some good traction...i really hope this happens, it will definitely change this freakin ugly cowtown!!
If I was going to build a huge park, I think I would choose Carlsbad or Las Cruses.. why?
Well Carlsbad, is closer to larger cities in Texas, it gets people out that way already because of the caverns.
Now Las Cruses would be a better spot, near El Paso, on both I-10 and I-25, it could attract people from All of N.M as well as Arizonia, Texas and even legals from Mexico. And with the Space Port and other attraction coming this way it would be a better choice.

I think an alien theme park would be cool. It fits the Roswell image, it would give people a reason to go there. It wouldn't have to be really huge but just something that would draw in visitors, families especially looking for something fun.
i dont know about how successful it would be.... but i'd go
