Santa Fe County provides an alternative to Santa Fe City. It has water driven restrictions on growth as does the city, so you need not worry about the problems that come with rapid growth.

If you are looking for more reasonably priced areas, then to the south -- Eldorado, a planned community -- 1-3? acre lots, consistent architecture, amenities.

To the north -- Pojoaque Valley -- predominantly Hispanic, but with a long tradition of people getting along. Housing is a mix -- a hundred acre estate might have a trailer for a neighbor. Views vary, but can excellent. -- This far north the terrain is rugged and the Sangre de Christos are close.

Just want to say thank you to all of those who responded to my questions. I've been away from the forum for awhile and am sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. Thanks again, all advice/opinions are greatly appreciated. And more would be welcome, too!
