Nope - won't take credit for the snow. However, if I brought the rain from Seattle - shouldn't that mean that it would STOP raining up here. <sigh> I wouldn't mind it so much if it came, rained, then went away...not this endless, all day rain.
And we are trying to escape it all too so hopefully if we ever get down there, the humidity will stay here. It was GREAT down there a few weeks ago when we were there - warm, sunny & NO HUMIDITY. So even the heat didn't feel so hot.

I know they have a pony express trail ride at White Oaks. They use to have the race down there. Not sure if they still do?

don't think this one will be that elaborate, but they will actually be carrying mail in from the different communities.

Anyone get out to Pep?
Did anyone get to this event? I was planning to go and had hoped to say hello to Soggy's parents and get lots of photos and report back here but that pesky old knee surgery intervened. I'm still a bit laid up and am hoping that someone on the forum can tell us what it was like to see the Pony Express ride again...

Pony Express White Oaks
Im not sure they have the Pony Express races in White Oaks anymore. I only went to one race there in White Oaks about 25 years ago and some of the Horses were practically carried across the finish line to keep them from falling down with the Riders. The Museum at Ancho Called .... My House of Old Things has Closed. White Oaks has the No Scum Allowed Saloon and for sightseeing the Old Cemetery and old two and three story houses from the 1800s. You can go through White Oaks and keep going on that dirt Road and eventually end up in Ancho im guessing about 20 miles away and come back out on 54. In between is the little town of Jicarilla that has an old one room school house made from the nearby timber and the old cemetery is nearby. pintada kid at webtv.net

Pintada Kid, I know that you were concerned for the welfare of the horses. I was pleased to read in the Clovis News Journal this morning that the horses weren't raced, but that it ended up being a more or less relaxed trail ride. To honor the Pony Express traditions, some did change mounts along the way.
Soggy, I wish I could have spent some time with your parents. I loved the idea of a community barbecue and dance. Well, maybe next year!

clairz, I hope to make it next year too. I didn't think we'd need to worry too much about the horses - I know the people out there and they never get in too big of a hurry! LOL
The new owner of Pep (there used to be a general store there) is really trying to bring all of those communities together out there.

Dad said the horses that came into Pep weren't even sweating... so they weren't certainly weren't 'rode hard'. I don't think they even galloped in 'to show off' - just a nice leisurely stroll. :-)
