I have no doubt. It is already 103 here right now.
HOWEVER....having said all of this....this is NOT normal for either Texas OR New Mexico. It is 94 degrees in Timberon, 91 in Cloudcroft (almost 9K ft) and probably way above normal for dang near every other place in the vicinity. I KNOW it was not this hot last summer, with endless days of 100s and very high 90s.
I bow to my refrigerated air, and thank God every day that I have it. This, TOO, shall pass, and all will be well again.

I moved from the Lehigh Valley in PA in '95 to Santa Fe for a job having never visited until the job interview. It is very different and took a little adjusting to but I love it here now. I just spent a week in PA and was glad to come home--I agree too many people, too hot and humid--I do miss the gardening and family but nothing else (although I always get a cheesesteak when I visit.) I love the sense of space here.
I'm older and also single and I wouldn't live in too remote an area because I need social outlets--mine are volunteering and taking classes. If my job weren't in Santa Fe I would look at the east side of the Sandia Mountains (Cedar Crest area) or check out Silver City since I've never been there. I looked at houses in Rio Rancho but it felt too exposed to the sun and that was in April. I would not live in Los Alamos--spent a couple weeks in White Rock and was really bored. I'm sure most towns have bars --not quite like the taverns of PA.

Chiming in from Northern NM, it's been extra warm up here - I think today was 80! Sorry, couldn't resist. After all the snow this winter, we're enjoying the weather. No one up here has swamp coolers, but I'm saving Mortimer's info on a makeshift one....just in case!

80? You do know that I hate you, don't you?
What part of northern NM? Even Farmington got up to around 95 or so.

OK, maybe 85, but it was breezy and cloudy most of the day - looked like rain. I'm on the Enchanted Circle, so we're at 7500 feet. You can hate me now, but remember...we did see -20 this winter, so I think there's a balance in nature happening. Anyone want to get away from the heat, come north. The rafting on the Rio Grande right now is at peak rapids. Even the Red River is really full!

I was kind of grinchy yesterday because it got to 87º here in Santa Fe, and though the house stayed somewhat cool, it was hot outside.
Then I read about 100-plus temperatures and I realize I can live with the 80s.

LOL. You're already settled in and spoiled Towanda! That didn't take long Find a shady spot, put on the big hat, and do nothing but watch the lizards, read a good book, look at the mountains, and drink ice tea. I realize it's hot when I go for a walk and after 20 minutes I'm sweating. I love no humidity. When camping without showers I don't feel quite so grungy--mostly dusty.

Believe me.....I am SO tempted.
It does all balance out, I guess.....you're in beautiful, beautiful country, but I do agree. Your winters are hard to take sometimes, just as the heat down south is....

Not sure where this info came from, but someone is not taking the temp correctly. The only time you'll see a reading of 90+ up here is when the thermometer is out in direct sunlight. The all-time official record in CC is 86, and this week has topped out at 85. Here is the daily log.
Yes, still too hot! And you're right, Cathy, this is not normal. Up here at 9,050 feet, I'm used to seeing 80-82 degrees two or three times a year. This extended stretch of 80+ is very odd. The good news, as I said earlier, is that the hottest part of the day does not last long. Even though it's topping out in the 80s, it's in the 70s and 60s most hours of the day and night.
Seeing 100+ in Alamo is more common, but it's still odd for it continue for so many days in a row.

HMMM....those were the numbers that Weather.com gave me yesterday. They DO come up with some weird numbers sometimes! Thanks for the correction!
Our nights are usually in the 60s at this time of year, too, so that IS a relief.
I'm looking at properties in CC/Ruidoso/higher elevations.....but I don't think I'll end up going that route (as a second home)....but it's nice to dream until fall gets here.
