Well, after posting I heard on KTEP (El Paso radio) that it's going to be "91 today in Cloudcroft." I'll believe it when I see it. I suppose with Cruces and ELP setting records this week, we could set one here in the mountains too. Anything is possible.
But even if it gets that hot, it won't be for long -- maybe 5 minutes or an hour or something. It would be nice if temperatures were calculated in daily averages for a more accurate idea of how it feels to be somewhere on a given day. Places like Dallas and PHX might be over 100 from sunup till sundown, while a place like Denver might see 100 for an hour or an afternoon.
As for Ruidoso and Timberon, they are both 2,000 feet below me, so if I'm in the 80s they could very well be in the 90s. Radio and TV reports tend to lump the mountain regions together as one when in fact temps can vary by 10 degrees or more.

Well, I am really wondering where they are measuring...and with Weather.com, I don't think you can tell that. Here is my current page, showing Cloudcroft at a current temp of 92..?!?! The paper this am gave the high temp for CC at 83 yesterday.
I really cannot get over how temperate Timberon really is, given its elevation. Ruidoso and Sierra Blanca/Ski Apache nearly always had snow every season 10+ years ago.
Speaking of Phoenix? They were 103 last night AFTER 10pm, to our 88. I don't see how they stand that.
I can't wait for October......

brief rain
Brief intermittent rain here in Nambe has broken the heat -- at least for now. We are north of Santa Fe, but a 1,000 feet lower and paid the price with temperatures in the low 90s .

The newspaper is much closer to correct. Those national weather sites usually just use a random Alamo measurement for CC, not realizing how different the places are.
The link I gave you above is tied to a thermometer in the village. Right now (about 3 p.m.) it reads 82. It also shows that today's high was 85.5 at 1:44 p.m. I live about 400 feet higher than the village, so sometimes my temps are a little different. Usually lower but not always.

It looks like rain.......smells like rain......but will it rain? Last night I heard thunder but no rain :-( Maybe I'm getting close to celebrating rain again! Co-worker was in Seattle last week and said it rained the whole time. Nope don't miss that but I do want to see one of those good booming New Mexican rainstorms with lightning from my patio--with a glass of wine--when I'm not driving.
