Default Tourist Trap

Ruidoso is beautiful!! But is also known to be a "tourist trap" Skiing, and summer vacationing-- little shops, beautiful mountains. Not sure about the hospitals/healthcare facilities. Have visited perhaps 4-5 times. Prices are high. Views are great if you love mountains, tall trees, etc.

I have a friend here who moved to Ruidoso from Dallas. She is an RN who worked on call for a homecare/nursing service.

She moved to Tularosa because she got tired of having to shovel snow to get out.....and she got tired of the tourists, too.

Ruidoso's gorgeous. You need to like tourists though.

Ruidoso certainly relies on the tourist trade - it drives their economy. If the ski season isn't good, everyone suffers. If there are forest fires or drought conditions in the Spring and Summer, everyone suffers. But being in the healthcare profession you should be buffered from that "boom and bust" economy.

I'd probably look at living in the Hondo Valley or in Tularosa if I were to move to the area - but if you move to Tulie, watch your water - there are areas where it's not great.

Lincoln is neat, as are the other little villages along the Hondo Valley.

Ruidoso does have very high rent and real estate factors because of the tourism & "vacation home" influx, too. You can avoid some of that by living in the outlying areas.

Now that HWY 70 is four lane, I even know a few people who live in Roswell and commute to Ruidoso daily. It takes about an hour to an hour and 1/2 depending on traffic to drive the 70 (+/-) miles one way.
