Well I am from Pakistan.. and while I have visited USA a few times before I have spent most of my time on the East Coast. I thought it was just gonna be another one of the 52 states. I mean there are small town all over America.. they aren't so bad are they ?
I had a scholarship here and thought I should save my parent's some money. I looked at the uni's website it seemed like a nice place.
Homesickness is another factor contributing to my dislike of this place.
Think I am just gonna do a semester and either go back or transfer.

Las Vegas is a tricky place for most Americans--- and Las Vegas isn't so bad...but, unless you spent time in Southern Appalachia, nothing east of the Mississippi compares.

You might look into getting acquainted with the United World College community. (about 6 miles west of town). The students are close to your age (18-19), more cosmopolitan (less than 20% are from the US), and as far from home as you are. Check the coffee places around downtown on late afternoons and check uwc-usa.org for events on campus.

You've taken a brave step by starting your higher education in a small town 12,000 miles from home. As you settle in, you'll find ways to mitigate your sense of isolation.

But yeah man this homesickness is really tough to deal with. I have been trying to meet new people and make new friends but it just doesn't seem to be helping out.

There are lots of Pakistanis in colleges in the US, but I believe you would find more of the diversity you are looking for at a bigger school, in a bigger town. Lots of people from much closer to home than Pakistan would have trouble adjusting to the small town life in relatively isolated Las Vegas, NM.

Default California to Vegas

I would think the World College in Montezuma has people from all over the World. Montezuma is about 10 miles north of Las Vegas. Js23 had some good Suggestions. I would think that there are Much Worse places in the World to be then Las Vegas N.M. especially if your from Pakistan or either coast for that matter. pintada kid at webtv.net
