Help in clovis, nm
Hi, we are military here, and just moved here last year. I point out that I am military, meaning, ive never had to really go into town to anything for any kind of assistance, its availiabe on base for us. But i have a civilian friend. She just found out shes pregnant, she is 20. Not married, not rich.
When I was pregnant, i lived in Mountain home, arkansas. I went to the clinic there and they put me on medicaid and i didnt have to pay for ANYTHING. it was a great thing,b/c me and my husband could not have afforded any of that!
My question is: is there any place here in clovis, that my friend can go to to get the same treatment i did? Im sure there is something to that effect, but i dont even know where to look. Any help is appreciated
Thank you in Advance.

La Casa provides medical care for low income individuals and families. They are quite busy, so your friend should contact them for an appointment as soon as possible:
La Casa Family Health Center
1521 W 13th St
Clovis, NM 88101
(575) 769-0888
I meet with a group of women who knit baby hats and baby blankets for low income moms, so I know that each new baby connected with La Casa gets these, plus I'm sure that there are other groups around town that put together other useful items to give to newborns.
Here is the contact information for the Clovis WIC (Special Supplemental Food Program for Women, Infants and Children ) Program:
Curry County Public Health Office
1216 Cameo St.
Clovis, NM 88101
(505) 762-3309
(505) 763-1842 fax
There are several free food distribution points around Clovis, generally held once a month. Here are some of them. I've put down the day of the week they distribute food, but please note that they don't do it every week. You should check with them for exact times and dates.
Presbyterian Church Food Pantry (basement), Thursday, 9-11 (once a month?). 1101 Pile St., Clovis, NM 88101, (575) 763-6821.
Salvation Army Thursday, 10-12:30 (once every three months). 317 E 2nd St
Clovis, NM 88101, (575) 762-3802.
Central Baptist Church on Norris, in the back. Thursday, 11-12:00. 2501 N Norris St, Clovis - (575) 762-4727.
Sacred Heart (gym in the back): Friday, 10 AM (hamburger, wieners, toilet paper). 911 N Merriwether St. Clovis, NM 88101, (575) 763-6947.
I believe that there are other free/reduced cost food distribution places--for instance, there is a group that will get you a whole box of meat for $25; they are called Angel something and have signs posted at the Health and Human Services office. The best thing is to strike up a conversation with the other people waiting in line and they can tell your friend where else to go.
I think that this is a very caring community. Please wish your friend the best of luck from me.
