Very good point, SeeBee. This is why we come up with stories to explain some things, and to be perfectly honest, the stories can be much more interesting than the actual science behind them. In some cases, maybe even a "better" way of explaining the phenomena.

But just for the record, I still don't believe in some old man in animal skins, running beside a van @ 60 mph...

why don't you try driving around the Navajo reservation at night around 11:00pm to 5:00am and make sure you go through isolated roads cause that is when there most likely to appear. Really try it

I've crawled all over the Navajo Nation, including lots of night driving, but the only dangers I've encountered were running low on gas, tipsy people behind the wheel of oncoming vehicles and livestock hanging out on warm pavement on a cold night.
Walking around the Maya ruins of Tikal in the middle of a full-moon night was spooky in a big way, but no skinwalkers there either. Jaguars are more the hazard there, but I don't think they turn into people at dawn. They're full-time feline.
lol when you try to look for something or want to encounter you won't find, but when your unaware you'll encounter the unexpected
