(I need to use canned green chile; that's all I can get in Kansas. )
*gasp* Cannnnned???
LOL!!
Seriously, if you can, try to use Hatch canned.
You might also check the frozen foods for Bueno frozen green/red chile. Our Walmart carries them. I find the red very handy for chili.
Very acceptable substitute when you cannot get fresh or your own fresh-frozen.

Thanks for the tips, Cathy.
I'll start looking around in supermarkets here to see what I can find in the frozen foods department.
Several years ago we could not get green chile at all .... and now there are a few more choices. I haven't looked for frozen green chile in a while but maybe we have it now.
I have several small packets of it in my freezer that I prepared and froze myself from scratch a year ago ..... still hoarding it for a special occasion.

Throwing a cocktail party in a few weeks and will add the jicama--great idea!
I'm in the midwest too, but luckily have a few decent mercados in town
Thanks!

Another Green Chile Stew....
Green Chile Stew
6-12 roasted, peeled and chopped green chiles, depending on size. Very large, use 6, etc. to make one cup.
1-2 peeled (or not) cubed potatoes, optional
1 chopped onion
1 minced clove garlic
2 chopped tomatoes, or 1 14.5 oz can Hunt's diced tomatoes
1/4 tsp. ground comino
4-8 c. chicken broth
1 TB oil
1 lb ground beef, or cubed beef...any meat can be used--beef, deer, turkey, pork, etc.
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
Brown and drain (if desired) ground beef. If using cubed beef, brown in the oil and drain.
Saute onions, garlic and comino in oil. Add beef, cook a few minutes. Add green chile, cook a few more. Add all, bring to a boil, cover, lower heat and cook for 2 hours or more. Better the next day!

Try both stew receipes
Try all the green chili stew receipes, they all sound good. I just have a personal aversion to cooking with ground meat of any kind, but that's just me.
