Default Pintada kid country candle tip

If you take a dry Cholla Cactus Branch and light it, it is like a Candle. I named it a COUNTRY CANDLE. The little holes in the side give it Air and it Stays Lit. This is good to know if you break down in the Middle of Nowhere and theres Cholla Cactus around and you dont have a light or to signal someone. The Bigger Branches make a Torch but harder to light also. pintada kid at webtv.net

Well, now, that is just the coolest thing!

I am going to hunt up a dried cholla on my property and try this.

I like CHOLLA CANDLE or NEW MEXICO CANDLE for a name!

Default Excellent information, Pintada Kid

....which variety of chollo will most burn like a candle?

Cholla Cactus (DesertUSA)

Cane Cholla

Pencil Cholla

Tree Cholla

Cholla Cactus (DesertUSA)

There are several varieties, I'd hate to go around sparking Chollo 'til I found the right one.

Default Cane, Pencil and Tree Chollas Tip

The Last 3 Chollas pics are probably the easiest to light and the Tree Cholla Cactus is probably the most common in the center of N.M. and easiest to light if they have the little holes on them. The holes give the fire air and keep the branch lit even in the wind. pintada kid at webtv.net
