Well everytime I hear more about the RailRunner which I think in general is a great idea, I start wondering what the heck the planners were really thinking! 80 minutes is not acceptable either for 35 miles.

When I look at I-25 since I drive it everyday -- I can see expanding it to 3 lanes each way but then I think of the shouler and that is where I think it gets into the pueblo land.

You can't have an interstate with no shoulder for miles and miles.

I believe the 80 mile number is based on travel time from downtown Albuquerque to SF railyard. That's 63 miles as the car flies, not 35. (35 is more like from Bernalillo to the 599 interchange west of Santa Fe). I imagine you factor in waiting for lights, traffic, etc., it comes out ahead of driving 80mph where possible from downtown to downtown.

You're fretting about pueblo land ROW where there's no plans to add rail runner track to it (the track already exists a mile or so west of the freeway). There's just a tiny sliver of Santo Domingo land where freeway ROW would be taken up by new track, and it's already 3-lane going up because of the hill, so there's plenty of room in that one spot. It wouldn't be too difficult to avoid even that sliver of land if it was an issue.

Given how fun it is to park in SF, I'm surprised you're not looking forward to seeing cars taken off the road by commuters using the RR when it opens.

Slightly off topic, but I found this article a few minutes ago and thought it was relevant.

NM placed a cease and desist order for serving alcohol on US Airways. One of our recent accidents, very serious, was apparently due to drunk driving after disembarking a flight in ABQ:

Zoid, who are you talking to? I'd LOVE to see a good train system! And I'd LOVE to be able to take it to Santa Fe instead of driving.

Was talking to you LLD.

Guv says 2008 they'll have the extra track laid to SF and have service running up that way. My money is on 2009 because everything with the rail runner has been arriving late. But it will come.

According to website, 6-laning I-25 from Tramway to Bernalillo is currently underway through 2008, beginning with the Tramway interchange. I don't think the railrunner put that on hiatus.

Sorry, I'm not fretting about anything so didn't quite get your response. No worries though. I'm very happy if the train gets going and also if the freeway gets widened to six lanes from Tramway to Bernalillo -- although by the time they are done I will probably not be living here in NM. :-)
