Truth or Consequences New Mexico Happenings
Every so often, I browse newspapers in other towns, just to see what's happening. I'm starting this new thread and will be posting news and happenings, so people who use city-data can get the feel of the town if they were ever planning on a trip to T or C. I invite all residents of T or C to do some informative posts, and also invite browsers to check out the latest news made in T or C and the local area. T or C is the county seat of Sierra County.

It turns out that the female suspect was arrested earlier in the day on Interstate 25 for a speeding violation, 90 in a 75 zone. Officer Woodis was treated and released from the local hospital and is recovering at home.

T or C News
A T or C man was arrested after shooting another man in the shoulder, the incident happened at the 7th. street apartments. The two men were having an argument, when one pulled out a "pellet gun" and shot the other. The shooter was charged by the T or C police department with aggrevated battery with a deadly weapon, a third-degree felony.
A man reportedly drove his SUV into the Rio Grande and swam to safety. He told police officers he was adjusting his disc changer located under a seat when his vehicle left the road. his vehicle was later found down-river on a sand or gravel bar. The vehicle was described as a 1999 Land Rover. It is not known if the driver will be charged.
In other New Mexico news, Chris Adams, zone archaeologist for the Gila National Forest, Black Range District, finds a 50/70 cartridge from a springfield rifle. This artifact likely belonged to a White Mountain Apache tribe member who was employed by the U.S. Military to spy on Warm Springs Apaches. Arrowheads were sometimes made of spent 50/70 cartridges by natives.
ROADBLOCKS SCHEDULED Now that the hunting season will soon be in full swing, the New Mexico Department of Fish & Game will conduct roadblocks throughout southwestern New Mexico in an effort to find and arrest poachers, hunters without licenses, and other game violators. The New Mexico departments of law enforcement will assist in the roadblocks.
Geothermal power plant coming to southern New Mexico ***** The new geothermal power plant will be near Animas, and will generate enough power to serve 8,000 homes, and eventually, the plant will produce up to 25 megawatts, enough to serve 15,000 homes. The company behind the power plant build said once underway, the power plant will employ approximately 125 persons.
A personal note from highdesertmutz: please have your drivers license, registration card, and proof of insurance with you when driving New Mexico, as we were stopped at one of these roadblocks on the way to Silver City once, and all three are required.

The Nutty Kind?
Jeez, or Cheeze if from wisconsin, I don't know. one week it's knife wielding gal, next it's a guy with a pellet gun. but, this is a true story, when I worked for the navy exchange at great lakes naval training center as a automotive tech, I was walking from bay 1 to bay 4 with an impact wrench in my hand. someone called the sp's, (security police) and told them there was a guy in the auto center with a gun! I got to bay 4, plugged the air hose into the air wrench, when I heard squealing tires and two way radios. I looked up, and the place was surrounded by cops with 9mm's drawn. I said to one cop, what the h*** is going on!?? now you know the rest of the story. I think the guy with the pellet gun over-reacted. I don't know how old you are, but when I was growing up, you usually just slugged it out in an alley somewhere, nowadays, everbody grabs a gun or a knife. It's a crazy world out here. ain't it?

Funnier Than
I think the funnier one is the guy driving into the rio grande. he should've been watching where he was goin', or goin' where he was watchin'! Didn't realize the rio grande had such a current to drag a 4,500 pound car downstream! Makes a person not to want to go swimmin' in it. if you stand on the bank, the rio grande looks, (appears) like a gentle moving river, Not! Never a dull moment in T or C

Looking at the color of the water and the abundant debris along its banks I don't think I'd WANT to take a plunge into that turgid mess!

Believe It or Not
believe it or not, Elephant Butte Lake has a beach, and people actually go for dips into this same water! as a child, I recall swimming & dipping into the waters of wisconsin, only to come up with the hives afterwards. so, sometimes even if one thinks the water is clean, think again! some swimming pools aren't even safe.
I spoke too soon. It's the 27th. of August, and the torrential rains have returned to T or C, so, on with the monsoon season, when will it end, I like hot & dry!

Feeling The Pinch - News you can use
****News Flash****
Yesterday, a manager of a dollar store, you all know the kind, (dog chews for a dollar) and so forth, told my wife there has been a 40% drop in sales at this particular store, possibly due to the new wally world store opening. It is expected that with the drop in sales, that employee hours will be slashed. this will hurt some employees because this is the only job they have, and some a single mothers.
In a few more days into weeks, "time will tell" if the snow birds will return to T or C, or if the nationwide economic crunch is going to have an affect on travelers.
Tomorrow 08/29/2008, the Sierra county newspaper will be published, and I'll be posting more tidbits for readers to enjoy and scratch their heads over. we'll be right back after some messages.
