Well, I trust your judgement about Carlsbad. It certainly sounds like something to see. Whether we move out there, or just wind up visiting, I will make sure we go!

Question I am not happy about Clovis!!

I am suppose to moving to Clovis, NM next week and I just have to say that when I started reading all this I was already not wanting to go, but now I'm even more not wanting now!! Is there anything I should know about moving down there? and does anyone know where I could find a website for apartments down there?

I dont think there is a website or even anywhere to view apartments on the internet, I went APT hunting a few years back and saw some really crappy apts. most are old since the town really hasnt grown in decades, its had close to the same population since I moved around that area in the late 80's.

There are a bunch of apartments being built or coming on line on Townsgate st. & MLK. Should bring out some competition.

Default Houses near Cannon

Portales is a much nicer, cleaner, safer and more interesting place to live, about 12 miles from the South Gate of Cannon. Homes in Portales are less expensive than in Clovis, and rents are a lot less expensive.

The downside is that Portales has much less to choose from online, and some of the best deals are posted for sale/rent by owner, and don't go through a realtor. So you have to go to Portales and drive around to see the best deals. The neighborhoods on the south side of town are the nicest.

As far as new homes, Portales has two subdivisions under construction, Territorial Estates and Oakwood Manor, with a 6-9 month lead time. There is one luxury rental subdivision going up, called Fox Trails. Most of the rest is on MLS or being sold/rented by owner.

The 801 Housing (Cannon Meadows) is available to AFSOC and is in a great location near the sports complex and university theater.
