Can anyone tell me about Mountainair, NM?
Anyone currently living in or near Mountainair, NM who can tell me what life in Mountainair is like? What activities, restaurants, motels, entertainment, Musicians, etc... are there? Are people there friendly or clickish? I want to buy a ranch there on the outskirts of Mountainair, NM. I want to retire in NM, just trying to find a peaceful neighborhood with breathtaking views.

Recommend you search for earlier forums, as this exact question has been asked and answered before.
Suffice it to say, prepare to be disappointed.

Mountainair New Mexico
Ive Driven over 2 million miles of N.M. Roads and Mountainair has been one of the Places i have Considered buying land myself. The People are very Friendly and theres lots of Artist and since im a Musician i know there lots of good talent out there and they have Festivals with live music all the time in the Area. Lets just say the Town is full of Artists and Painters. And It wouldnt be a bad place for Retirement i would think but Estancia and Moriarty are Great Places also. And Willard N.M. 15 miles from Mountainair is so peaceful there its almost like living in a Ghost town but they do have or had a Great Place at the Cantina that had Great Red Beef Enchiladas. Willard is in the very center of N.M. and a Great Place to watch the Stars and the Sunsets at the Salt Lakes and weird Giant Fireballs. Since the Cantina at Willard changed to a Different manager i havent been eaten there. Mountainair has some Great Food in some of their Restaurants. pintada kid at webtv.net

We don't live in Mountainair but we do own some property couple miles outside of town. We plan on retiring there.
My take on it: Quiet, picturesque area, clean air, make your own entertainment basically, good hiking/camping nearby, good wildlife/birding,
decent motels, dining ok (can't say I've been to all dining establishments
in town), one small, good supermarket, the people I've met were nice,
friendly chief-of-police (met him once). If you need nightlife it's not the place.
We have property is a new 400+/- lot (20 acre lots) called Deer Canyon Preserve is a couple miles south of town. Because of this development I believe the town will slowly change, improving it for the better (in my opinion).

Thanks for the Google Maps tip off. I didn't realize Alb's territory extended to Mountainair.
I know someone who grew up there, and was curious, so I went into Google Maps to explore. Unfortunately, the first words that came to my mind upon inspection was "meth lab".

The meth has to be made somewhere and as far as I know Mountainair has very little zoning enforcment.

What?
Is that even logic? To insinuate that the manufacture of illegal methamphetamine is due to some lack of zoning enforcement is a stretch by any means.
Was that a joke?
Have you even been to the town?? And what would you know about the zoning there? Mountainair is like a LOT of rural NM towns........full of good people, families trying to make it. A little run-down here and there and sure there are probably some bad apples, but your comment does a great dis-service to the good people of that town and I think you owe them an apology.
