People Will Freeze
If the Price of Food and Gas and Utilities and everything imaginable goes up like it has there will be people who wont be able to afford to eat or stay warm this winter or even afford to get to work. Back in the early 70s when i drove Propane Trucks propane was 11 cents a gal today its 2.50 a gal today. Unleaded gas at that time was 40 cents a gallon today its 4.00 a gal. Here in the center of N.M. where the temps can get to 25 below or colder in the winter its not unusual for a small home to pay 500 a month on fuel the Bigger homes will probably run 1000 a month or more to keep warm. pintada kid at webtv.net

I don't mean to sound like Polyanna, but most of the cost increases are simply inflation.
A house in 1960 that sold for $21,000 would sell for $210,000 today. A secretary in 1960 might earn $2.25 an hour while today they might earn $22.50 an hour.
Sometimes earnings rise faster than the cost of living, and sometimes they lag behind.
Inflation is simply the U.S. government's brilliant scheme to tax the rest of the world.

Yup... even the colder places in NM could get half their winter heat with passive solar.

and salaries were about 1/3 or less than now. I remember when my mother in law started getting social security in the last 60s: $110.00 per month, she also only paid $44 a month for rent in her mobile home park just outside of Palm Spings. Everything is relavent....

Its going to be cheaper here to heat our home than it would of been had we stayed in Maine.
We are finding its much much cheaper to live here. Our electric bill is about one third of what we paid in Maine.
