Pintada Kid - there was a truck with Pinons for sale the other day here in Raton. I didn't get any but I'm pretty sure it would have been a fresh crop?...not knowing much about them, I'm doing that assume thing.

There is going to be crop in Zuni this year. I went bird hunting yesterday and saw some on the ground but most are about to fall. Maybe with a good rain storm, they will fall. I actually picked up about a two pounds. Then I roasted them last night. Right now I'm eating pinon in my office.

Default Zuni Pinon

Nothing like Freshly picked pinon and freshly Salted Roasted just right. Over the years ive roasted several Thousand lbs of Pinon in the oven but i think its going to SkyRocket in Price because its so Scarce and only comes around so many years and takes about a couple of hours to pick 3 lbs. I heard someone had invented a pinon Cleaning or Pinon Picking Machine has anyone heard anything?? pintada kid at webtv.net

Yeah. Freshly roasted pinon is great. I had offers from my co-workers this morning asking if they could buy some off me. I never heard of a pinon picking machine. All I need is either a blanket or knee pads. It took me about thirty minutes to pick two pounds and from two trees. I will probably check again tomorrow morning. I have seen several trees covered with pinon near the ice caves.

That's great mtncat. The frenzy is starting here in Zuni. I went to Gallup the other day and cars were parked on the side of the roads all the way up to Gallup. As a matter of fact, I will be heading out myself after I get off.

Default Pinon Is Coming Down

The Pinon in the Nogal, White Oaks and Ancho is starting to come down. Danger >>>>> the Ancho Area White Oaks has lots of mines that you can fall into and lots of Mining caves going into the Mountains and tunnels and caves in all direction and Shafts going straight down lots of mining caves everywhere that pull you into them if your the Curious type like me. Danger >>>>> The Grass is high in those areas and danger of getting bit by a rattler is very easy not to mention the little cactus that can go through your shoes if you dont watch where your walking. Did i mention theres a Few Bears and Mountain Lions in those areas so always hike with someone you can Outrun. P.S. if you do go Pinon picking in these areas take plenty of Food and Water and Sleeping Bags and Blankets and A good Shovel and a Weapon even if you dont plan to Stay Overnight. Take a couple of Coffee cans and a Sack to put the Pinon in. They say an Indian can pick 25 lbs of Pinon in a Day one by one. >>>>>>> IM CURIOUS how much Pinon is selling for Raw in Gallup Grants area and how much it is selling for Salted and Roasted? pintada kid at webtv.net
