In 1919 my dad purchase stock in a company called Raton Petroleum Company. The stock certificate is dated 08/12/1919. I have been unable to find any information on the internet about this company. Has anyone out here heard of them or can anyone tell me how to go about researching them.
I would call Raton City Hall because if they are still registered in the region they will have to have a license and whatnot. If they are no longer around they may be able to tell you when they ceased.
The stocks are worthless other than the historical value. The stock(s) you have were sold to raise money to look for oil in promising areas around Raton. They found a really promising well and raised even more money under the name of Northern New Mexico Crude Oil Company. They never did find oil.
