Wink Retirement in Ruidoso

My husband and I are planning to retire to New Mexico in the coming year. We are looking for an area that has reasonable housing costs and opportunities for fishing and hiking. The Ruidoso area caught our eye and we would appreciate comments from someone who actually lives there for their opinions. Is there an extreme water problem forcasted for the future? How are new folks treated by the locals and what areas are the best and worst for housing. Is Ruidoso Downs a more low-rent area than the village? Would really appreciate your most candid thoughts!
