Default Las Vegas as a Retirement location????

Any opinions on LV as a retirement location?

Senior services? Medical? Cost of Living?

I've been looking throughout the Southwest. Don't like the major heat of further south. Santa Fe is congested. A nice place to visit, but not sure I'd want to live there. Las Vegas is within visiting distance of Sta Fe. I've been in Las Vegas a number of times & liked the small city feel & the Victorian architecture, but could never stay for very long.

Other towns under consideration are Farmington (I have family there) & Cortez, CO, but I think that for my purposes they may be too far off the beaten path. I like LVs position on I-25 & the Sta Fe RR. The next option might be Trinidad, CO.

BTW... any anti-Pit Bull laws?

My wife's Grandmother lives there... it's a beautiful part of NM. Granted I've only been there a few times to chop-down a Christmas tree.

Las Vegas is beautiful and is one of my favorite places in Northern New Mexico as the Sange de Christo's particully Hermits Peak is really awesome to see. The only drawback to me is it's to cold in the winter for me but for those who like cold then i'd say explore the region there.

The first is Hermits peak just behind Las Vegas. The second is a close up shot. The third is a view from up on top.

Love those shots of Hermit's Peak!

I'm no where near retirement, but having lived in Vegas for a couple of years now, I could definitely see myself retiring her someday if I wanted. I wouldn't settle down here (in terms of raising a family), but retirement wouldn't be so bad. It's a beautiful place.

Just don't go out at night.

Retirement? Maybe if you don't have your money in a 401K these days. The way the economy is going no one will be able to afford to retire.

rybert: That depends on what happens with the economy. I heard someone the other day call his 401K a 200.5K because he was afraid it had lost half of its value.

I love the location of Las Vegas, right on the boundary between the plains and the mountains. I understand it's a great place to view weather. The views east are wonderful!

It's not an attitude, it's an observation. My attitude is that I am pissed at all the fatcats that have run this country into the ground based upon their insatiable greed. I won't say anymore because Towanda will come swooping down and scold me for inserting politics into this thread.

I was being as light -hearted as possible... I probably should have put a smiley face at the end of that post.

I'm terribly worried about the future of the country. I'm slowly slipping into survival mode (storing food, water, etc.).
