Summer of the Snake~Bite
I joined to hopefully connect to others in New Mexico and all States, that have been bitten by a rattlesnake. I was bitten at home this summer and spent 4 days in ICU
(had an allergic reaction they believe) I saw probably ten snakes last year, most bull snakes, but not all! I now own three cats and have enrolled my wuff and Snoop Dog in snake awareness school in the spring.
I am curious to know if others have had after effects and pain associated with their bite. Hope to get some "feed" back!
Thanks, SnakeBite **>>>>><>>>>>><>>>><>>>>}:~

Where do you live (city, state)? Is it a rural or urban area? What are some details of where you were when you were bitten? Sorry for the questions...I would actually just really be interested to hear your story!

Yes, I would like to know where you live and how the snake entered your home. I can say that rattle snake bite is very dangerous and many people who don't get medical attention on time, die from the poison.

Thank you for your interest. I live one hour west/ north west above Santa Fe, NM. It was July 17th 2006 and I was walking out of my front door at dusk, I never saw the snake, felt the bite and then heard the rattle sound. The light had blown om the front patio where I was walking out to water a plant, as I switched it on it blew (coinsidence???) so I never saw the snake bite me.
I had an immediate alergic reaction. My lips went numb and my throat started to close withing seconds. My husband rushed me to Espanola hospital within 20 minutes. My vitals were very low, body temp was very low, I heard them check my husbands temp to verify the thermomiter was working. It was as if I was paralized. I was very out of it, but could hear them asking me questions, and I could not answer. My left ankle just above the ankle bone is where I was bitten. It did not swell or have any sign of a rattlesnake bite except two fang puncture wounds. Therefore they did not want to treat with anti-venon thinking it may kill me if it was not a rattlesnake. After what must have been two hrs I heard them say they were going to administer it because I was dying, so they were prepaired for me to either be healed by this or have an additional reaction which they had prepared an antidote for as well. It worked, after 4 days I was released from ICU to go home. On my birthday!
I have had TERRIBLE nerve damage in my foot which has been very difficult to handle at times. It has been a year this 17th of July and my foot still swells and gives me grief!
I think the most valuable part of this experience was that the snake venom may have saved my life.
If you look up mojave rattlesnake venom and cervical cancer, you will see that the FDA was supposed to approve this as a TREATMENT to CURE several types of cancers. I had been told I had to have a pretty serious operation for pre cancer of the cervix.(very hi-grade) i was prepared for at the least a hysterectomy, and when I got out of surgery (which I put off and angered my family, and then got bitten by the snake) when I got out of surgery after less than 30 minutes, I was told by my Doc that it was nothing like she expected and was certain I was A-okay. She did less than the first step of the operation!
Then while I was recovering from all of these medical speed bumps I read on a mathmatical science website (I was looking to see why i was having so much pain) I saw an article that detailed how the rattlesnake venom kills the bad cancer cells and leaves the good cells in tact!
I brought this report and some other info and gave it to my Doc. she said she was certain that this very possibly had everything to do with my health!
Aho Snake!

SnakeBite,
I am sorry you got bit by a snake. It hasn't happened to me but I was reading your story and I had something come to mind. I have a book by Ted Andrews called Animal Totems. It lists tons of animals, insects, reptiles, birds, etc. and tells a little about each one and what they can represent in your life. For instance, the snake came into your life for a reason....to tell you something, to show you something, etc. You need to get this book or a book like it or better yet, you can probably google totem animal snake and see what pops up. It may give you some interesting information about yourself. I would look it up in my book for you but I have a bunch of stuff packed away and in storage now until we move to NM. Anyway, sounds like you already have your answer. The snake came along to save your life.

Song in The Wind* Thank you for you note and your beautiful thoughts. I agree 200% with you~I was raised to carry "Wamakaskan' since I was very young. "Wamakaskan" is the medicine of the animals and I have been introducing people to their 'Animal Totems' for about 15 yrs of my adult life.
Snake 'Zuzeca' carries the way of 'Transmutation' 'healings' shedding of the skin/ways'. Western medicine uses the snake on a staff (I forget what it is called) to represent healing/medicine.
Snake was one of my biggest gifts of my journey so far! I have some friends that thought 'wow that is terrible that you were bitten by a rattlesnake,' the friends that are close in 'my ways' reacted with extreme excitement, it was funny and wonderful to see that in them. I try to remember to honor snake everyday in my personal ceremonies. My entire life changed starting the day I got home from the hospital too! It was extreme and overwhelming and the most difficult personal time to date. That seems to have settled, but my life will never be the same since that event*
I appreciate your insight 'Song in the Wind' you are close with the animals too I see! If I could show everyone I meet how to recognize and understand the winged ones, ones who swim, walk and crawl, they would see through the eyes of their heart more often and understand more of their journey~ They bring such good lessons and message. So keep spreading the messages of the animals!
ALso, You are Song in the Wind, I am RiverSong Ranch!

Thank you Towanda for your kind reply!
I feel it is important to spread the info on rattlesnake medicine. Their are people out there fighting hard for their live's to survive cancer,,some have been told their is no hope, (I just found out 3 days ago my Dad has luekimia)
maybe this snake medicine could cure more cancers.
The FDA has many reports saying it does~ if this helps someone in anyway, then that is WONDERFUL! Blessings, Jade

There are soooo many reasons to live in NM! But if snakes are a lure for you, you will not be disapointed! I have lived in FL (a native since toddler) NC for 3 yrs and the Bahamas for 8. I never knew I would feel so fullfilled living here in the mountains! The people are polite and similiar with one another in many ways.
There is a kin-ship here that is very strong and real with each-another.
If someone honks their horn, you know they are either new here from probably the East coast (I am, so no offense meant, I was a mild honker ) or just visiting.
There is so much culture EVERYWHERE you go~ The beauty of that is surreal at times. Speaking of surreal, the sunsets could make a man of stone cry.
The food is INCREDIBLE! I am a French Laundry die hard, that restaurant set my standards for food, and the restaurants here help me through the times inbetween traveling to Sonoma for my French Laundry rendevous!
I just can not say enough about the joy I have living in NM!
I hope that if you have a dream to move here, you do! Life is short~
and there is an offering of life here that is more harmonious than anywhere I have been. It seems that people have counted on living on their dreams here in NM. So many artists, writers, on and on! It REALLY IS the LAND OF ENCHANTMENT!
My Best to You! go for it!
Jade
