New Mexico Rattlesnakes
Rattlesnakes in the Center of N.M. and in some Northern Areas are still out throughout the year. If theres a place or Cliff with House size Boulders and lots of Rock the ground outside gets so hot the Rattlesnakes come out to warm up even if there is snow on the Ground. Rattlesnakes if the weather is warm are already out by Easter so Beware. IT will cost you over 25 thousand dollars in Medical Expenses if you get bit by a Rattlesnake. P.S. your limb or area bit will probably never be 100 percent again. P.S. remember not all Rattlesnakes inject venom when they bite but you can get infected by the bite of any snake or animal for that matter. el pintada kid

Good, I'll have my s/o pee on them when we're out walking/hiking.
I'm wondering why they don't rattle when they're wet.

ONLY if theyve become completely soaked and the rattles have absorbed a lot of water that doesnt permit them to rattle. If theyre just a little wet theyll rattle all they want. Most snakes seek shelter from the elements, so if theyre just a little wet, theyll rattle. Ive heard rattlers in Missouri rattling in the middle of a downpour.

Wet Rattles and Lightening
At least Stevo o is changing his story a little about if the Rattlers arent Saturated ha ha. The Little Bitty Rattlers probably wont be affected by rain but the big 5 and 6 and 7 foot rattlers the rattles get wet very easy. EXAMPLE... The County asked me to take a bunch of kids out in the Country and Hike and Camp overnight. That afternoon we got caught in a Huge Rainstorm and the Arroyos were running with Trees and there wasnt a Dry Area anywhere. All the Kids hair were Standing Straight up and i told them we would have to get in our Vehicles until the Rain stopped or we would get hit by lightening thats the first sign you are about to get hit when your Hairs stands up on your head with all the Electricity in the Air. >>>>>>> When the Storm passed we pitched our Tents wherever we could find half dry spots. The Next day this little Girl called Debra was walking around with a bunch of Kids and i was on Top of a Hill and Debra was walking right to a HUGE Rattlesnake over 5 foot and i kept yelling at her to Stop but she kept walking after yelling at the Top of my Voice i knew she was going to Step on the Snake and i ran down the Hill and jumped between her and Rattlesnake pushing Debra away. The kids never heard the Rattlesnake Rattle and neither did Debra. >>>>>>> I shot the Snake about 3 times in the Head with my pistol and then cut the Head off and Buried it. I was Video Taped while doing this. Also the Kids saw when i was Dissecting it on the Hood of my 63 chevy suburban 4x4 they saw the snake come up and Strike me on the Shoulders while i was Skinning it. >>>>> IT was a Great Learning Experience for everyone. All the Kids got to see Ghost Towns and old Churches and Cemeteries and Indian and Sheepherder Writings and the Mushroom Rocks which are huge Boulders on packed dirt about 25 feet high and at one time some kind of Holy Ground for the Indians. The Old People called them Paragues or Umbrella Rocks. For years i would look for these Rocks out in the Mountains till i found them one day when the Sun was just right and i was all excited because i had been looking for them for years and i called them the Mushroom Rocks and the Name Stuck. el pintada kid

thanks for the info
i appreciate your sharing about the snakes. i may be moving to N.M. in a couple years and am working to gain all the knowledge i can about any and every thing in that state. i spend a lot of time out doors and while we have rattlers in VA, its not like there. it has to be awfully warm here before we see any type of snakes out. i usually kill every poisonous snake i see here. are there laws protecting snakes there. thanks again

You should be ashamed of yourself. You proclaim yourself to be a lover of nature, yet you butcher an innocent snake in front of kids? Congradulations ignoramus, you just taught several kids to live in fear of snakes and show them that its ok to kill wildlife. Youre not teaching the kids anything when it comes to respecting all forms of life!!! Youre a farce, and your ridiculous/rude antics towards wildlife are DISGUSTING and VILE. Ever heard of walking around the snake and leaving it alone? It wont bother you if you dont bother them, and you know this. The reason it probably didnt rattle is because snakes take the "Id rather not be noticed" approach to life. Either that or the snake simply didnt feel threatened enough to rattle. Seriously, your brutal killing of rattlesnakes is ridiculous, rude, obnoxious, cowardly and dispicable. I cant wait until the day the NMDNR busts your a$$ butchering a snake. With any luck it will be a protected species and your a$$ will handed a heavy fine. Maybe then youll realize that its best to just LEAVE THEM ALONE. Why dont you devote your time to showing the kids all the different forms of wildlife and the important roles they play in the world? Hmm? Why not tell them that the innocent snake that you just butchered consumes 10+ lbs of disease spreading rodents annually? Hmmm? Why not demonstrate to them the PROPER way of dealing with a rattlesnake? Its easy. You STOP. You take two steps back. You go around it. SImple as that. But shooting a snake and gutting it in front of them only teaches these children that its ok to kill animals out of fear and utter stupidity.
SHAME ON YOU, PINTADA KID, SHAME ON YOU.

Oh lord, do not say kill snakes. You have opened the biggest can of worms ever. Heck, don't even say you dislike snakes, some might tell you to seek therapy for that.
