border patrol
My family and I are currently in West Tennessee, but my husband is considering taking on a job as a border patrol agent in NM. We have two daughters, one going into preschool and one just a few months old. I work as a special education teacher's assistant in the county preschool here. Is there a small town close to the border (or, say, within 20-30 miles) that would accommodate all of us? I'd also like to return to school for a spec ed teaching degree--any colleges around?
I appreciate any info/feedback anyone can give me. Thanks in advance!

Las Cruces is a College Town
Hi Angie,
Las Cruces sounds like your place! New Mexico State University (NMSU they have a .com) is here and there is a Border Patrol office off of N. Main & Elk's Drive.
I'm new here so I don't know how many other border patrol offices there are.

Depends on where you'll be, but Las Cruces is one of the nicer towns in New Mexico.

Las Cruces Gets My Vote
Try to live in Las Cruces if you can. In the Southwest, it is not very populated out that way but Lordsburg which is a small western town that is from what I've heard on the way to being "another" ghost town like all the ones around it. Not much out that way but Interstate 10. Deming is another small city. It is also a desert town that can get some great sandstorms blowing through there sometimes. If at all possible, choose Las Cruces.

From TN Also
We moved back home to TN from the borderland earlier this year. We are now in the process of moving back "home" to NM. You would love NM! If your husband wants to be in the Border Patrol, I suggest Las Cruces as a larger city, Deming as a mid-size, and Lordsburg as a small town. Lordsburg has a Border Patrol station and Western New Mexico University is within 45 miles. Deming is close to both WNMU and NMSU, and is 11 miles from a good border crossing. Las Cruces is the home to NMSU, but is very close to El Paso. BTW - I have been pulled over many times by the BP, those guys have alot of fun!

I suggest showing up at their office and asking how to submit an application.
