Default Romantic Carrizozo

ITs a great little town to visit and live i would think and it has a city park a couple of years ago i was playing guitar to a Girl there and then we went for a Walk in the Rain and took some pics its a photgraphers dream town just take the Side Streets. I wonder if they have those old cars and trucks they used to have several Cameo Chevy Old pickups inside a fence there. The Cameo chevy pickups are some of the most beautiful trucks but you rarely see one anymore. Also the Dinas those are chevy Trucks too. P.S. the people and kids are nice and lots to see. el pintada kid

I'm sure they'll figure out that you can triple the price of a cup of coffee when you add milk to espresso soon.
Yeap i remember when Sturgis and Kings grocery stores were open in the 80's/90's in Carrizozo. There are plans for new housing subdivisions on U.S.380 across from the golf course but the current housing crises has put it on hold.

2 degrees warmer than Ruidoso in winter, and 8 degrees warmer in summer (when you wish it wasn't). Pretty dusty and windy also... and my neighbor tells me that there is still enough radio-activity from nuclear explosions there to be a problem (most likely BS).

I wouldn't call any of this "close" to Carrizozo... it will take over an hour to get to any Walmart or the ski area from there, and almost that long to get to Bonito Lake (which is really more like a pond).

Pintada Kid: I think you meant El Camino pickup trucks. I liked the Ford Ranchero trucks too. I like Carrizozo and am glad it's coming to life.

What I want to know is where the music colonies in NM are!

I like Carrizozo too ....good to hear things are picking up there ...

Somebody mentioned the weather and how it compares with Ruidoso

Here's 1971-2000 NCDC climate normals...

Carrizozo,NM

M JA FE MR AP MA JU JL AU SE OC NO DE
HI 53 58 65 73 81 91 91 88 83 74 61 53
LO 23 26 31 37 46 55 59 57 51 39 29 23

Ruidoso,NM

M JA FE MR AP MA JU JL AU SE OC NO DE
HI 50 53 58 65 73 82 81 79 75 67 57 50
LO 19 22 26 30 37 44 49 49 43 34 25 20

Notice that Carrizozo is one month "ahead" of Ruidoso
Their January is like Ruidoso's February ...etc
Carrizozo's elevation is approx 1,500 ft lower than Ruidoso
IMO warmer and nicer ...less snow....
and summer nites drop down into the upper 50's

Default Catman and Cameo Pickups

I have a 59 ford ranchero and have friends that have the old chevy el Caminos. The Dinahs i think are chevy trucks from Mexico. Ive only seen one in my life around the Alamogordo area. The Cameos were one of the most fabulous chevy Classic trucks made. You never see them on the Highway they are very rare maybe someone can post a pic of a Cameo Chevrolet pickup. el pintada kid

Talking No, 'Zozo is no Trinity site

Yes, that is BS, there isn't any nuclear activity there-unless you count the residual thermo-nuclear effect of the warm desert after our big reactor in the sky goes down! But if you go to a dark area with a bottle of wine and let your eyes get used to the night sky, you can see some pretty cool things coming from the Air Force base!

Anyone have any good movie suggestions that show 'Zozo? The best I've seen is the Billy the Kid documentary done a couple of years ago that shows quite a bit of the town. Fun because a friend of ours wons the "Eat and Drink" former saloon, and it's featured in the movie. Anyone hear how the Burrow auction went this year? Hope they raised a ton of money!

6 Foot 3: Wanted to inquire around your previous experience with the grocery in Zozo. How was it received in the community, was it before the Wally was built in Ruidoso, etc? Might be a predictor around possible success for the new, planned store there now. Thanks, Newday

Just a note... don't think the Walmart in Ruidoso is much of a consideration... or even the one in Alamogordo... it is more than a 1hr trip to either one. That is a very long trip if you just need a few items. The closest store now is the little one in Capitan that is ~20 miles away.

A couple of smaller grocery stores in Ruidoso and the one in Capitan are doing fine. Seems like a well-managed store in Carrizozo would be a no-brainer.
