I sure hope they do open a new store up for the community there. What about when it snows bad (Snowstorm) there how are they gonna get up to Ruidoso or Capitan as i guess they'd have to shop at one of the convience stores there.
Anyway they had 2 back in the 80's and 90's so i see why they couldn't have at least one now as i'm pulling for them.

Mexican, Spanish salvage doors for sale
Anyone that can help, please email me directly at suzy.fisher@opkansas.org
We drove through Carrizozo about a year and a half ago and I remember stopping at an intersection (had to be along the small highway that goes through town as we wouldn't have gotten off the highway) and at this intersection there was a fairly big old building that only sold salvage Mexcian/Spanish doors that had been taken off old buildings in Mexico and transported up here to sell. Fascinating store with really cool old doors. Tons of doors, more than 50 at least.
Anyone know the name of it? contact info? website?

I sure hope they do find someone decent to make something out of it. Now that they have the Valle de Sol development (hate those night lights) and the Vera Cruz ranches, hopefully that will bring more people with disposable incomes in. Do hate to see the ranches get parcelled up like that, but it's inevitable as the owners die off and the kids aren't interested in ranching.
Hey, kind of off the subject, but there are lots of smart people out there, would appreciate thoughts on wells. We just bought property outside of Alto (right off 37, about 4 miles from the split) and we're thinking we should go ahead and drill the well now. However, it will be a few years before we can put up a house on the property. Is there anything to be concerned with if we do this and just let the well sit until we're ready? Thanks.
Yes, 'Zozo is a special place. We have good friends that own Jackie Spencer's old ranch by the airport that we stay with. And in case anyone is interested, yes, that really is a camel they have and his name is (ready for this?) Tutt.

Good well drillers in Lincoln are the Huey's. You can put a contigent into your real estate contract that is dependent on good water. Depends on where you are but may have to go down 800-1000 ft. Generally south of 380 has better water. Sample your neighbors wells and see how deep. Carrizozo has some arsenic in shallow wells. Camels, brought in the late 1800's for weed control. Wild horses on the range also. Good, good people but rather shy.

We have the Country Store in Capitan, that has just expanded. Doubled their space. The owners will stock any product that you request. Don't know about the store in Carrizozo. But if your wise in what you really need and "if you can't buy it at Walmart you most likely don't need it" you will do fine. Saves money too!

Need one more reply. Snow on the road, because of the altitude, may last for two or three days. You learn to stock for at least a week and just sit back and relax. You need to be a little independent. We were snowed in for a week and it was so beautiful and quiet! Got to relax a little. Hellicopters are sent over the ranches for any signs of distress. You will be fine!!

Carrizozo N.M.
I would think that snow is Rare in Carrizozo any way when it does come down its gone in a Day most of the time. The Mountains towards Ruidoso and Capitan and Nogal and into Corona get the Snow. So Going to Capitan a Few miles away to the Store there you might have to worry in Bad Weather on just about 10 to 15 miles of Road and im sure the Highway dept clears that off in a couple of hours. If you want to See Snow go towards Clines Corners elevation 7200 ft where sometimes the Snow stays covering the fence post into the Spring. el pintada kid

That's good to hear about Capitan Caydriver and that's a nice little town.........although in winter the drive from Carrizozo to Capitan can get hit hard with snow and ice at times as i'm sure those in Carrizozo would really appreciate their own like back in the 80's when they had two stores then and now it's zero stores.

Capitan Store
I agree the Capitan Store was a nice store back about 10 years ago when i was there last i can imagine how nice it must look now. >>>> I use to like going into the Store in Carrizozo years ago when it was open and i remember they had nice friendly people. >>>> Corona has a Good Store with sales every other month and stocked with most everything and great prices on their meat but you have to call and find out if the meat is out because it goes and i do lots of my shopping there. I think people need to worry more about running out of Home fuel or Electricity cutoffs by the utility companies especially in bad weather and bad times. el pintada kid

It is a wonderful store now. Is about 2X's the size as before. Electric is pretty dependable, but if you want to live here you must be able to take care of yourself. As far as protection goes, no one crosses fence lines, no matter land grant or state land. We support one another and check in frequently. Your animals have feed for a week and so do you. Plenty of wood and batteries. And, like I have said, hellicopters come over if the weather is severe.
