I remember when the stores in zozo were still open. They had two grocery stores a napa, another auto parts/shop and a fina in the middle of town.
All of those places went out of business in part to the locals not paying there credit lines. The locals left all those places that actually helped the local economy for the super walmarts in Alamo and Rui. The locals just ran them all out.
Not sure anyone will be willing to risk opening up another place in zozo.

I'm guessing now, but most likely the population of Lincoln triples during the summer. Many from Texas have summer homes here and also good folks from Old Mexico come here for the summer and the horse racing. New stores are opening in the small towns and the superstores , in my opion, do not have a big impact on closings. Several stores just had no family members left to take over, and the EPA rules when you buy a station are not cost effective to re-open. We are all very loyal to the stores we have in our small communities and try to support them. Who in their right mind would drive 70 miles to buy gas that is only 2 cents more a gallon 3 miles away? Same goes with supplies.

They were called Stugis and Kings. I quasi knew the owner Pete king as he was a really nice down to earth guy.

Was about a quarter mile west of the old fort. Was a minimum security. No violent offenders are scheduled to be housed at Ft Stanton in the future. ENMU in Ruidoso is planning a semester course this spring on the history of the Ft. You might be able to access it on line.

Man , I love Carrizozo, it is a real step back in time. And the best thing there is the old soda fountain , which used to have the hospital on the second floor. I like the way that the town is laid out, the streets go off in all kinds of odd angles to each other. I like the old cars (from the 40s to 60s) for sale at the old station on the west end of town.

Zozo apartments
Can anyone tell me the availability of apartments? Nothing fancy, but clean and nice? I'm not an artist.
Is there much competition for apartments? Thanks

In what town and what are you looking for? What would you be doing. Are you looking for a caretakers position?

Really the only apartments in zozo are low income government housing and seinor low income gov housing. You would probably be able to find a trailer house to rent pretty easy.
The owners of the Outpost do have a few apts across the street from there restaurant. You might give them a call and see if they have any available.
