Chile powder from Adam's Market/Belen
I have searched the New Mexico forums in vain to figure out if I can get what I need here...
I am looking for chile powder in the plastic bags that is sold at Adam's Market in Belen, New Mexico. I don't know if it's exclusive to Adam's Market or if it's just standardized New Mexico chile (chili) powder that you can buy anywhere.
I used to buy this stuff on New Mexico trips, and I need more! Does anyone know how I can get this stuff online or via mail order?

Not sure of the name of it but there is a place in Deming that sells great red and green chile powders. Its north of town about 1/2 mile. I am sure the chamber of commerce would know the name and number for it. I will not get mine anywhere else since finding them.

Hi Jennie, I've been in the same boat, moved and not had a friend, relative or some one to send me things from an area
I'd suggest: Call the store. Ask them to get the product off the shelf and come to the phone. Then ask them to read the Manufacturer's name, address, phone number and website info to you, so you can write it down. Get the price too.
You can probably agree over the phone that ths is THE product you are looking for
Also ask them if you can't get it from the "maker/company", IF the Store would be willing to sell some to you and mail it to you, at Your expense. Get the price. This works best if you talk with the Manager or such.
Check out the manufacturer's info- website etc.
If you have No luck with the manufacturer selling direct to you, then you can call the store {Adams} back and ask them to send some to you This time of the year they might do this a bit more than other times
I found this Adams Market address and phone for you if you don't have it:
Adam's Market
1617 Mesita Lane
Belen, NM 87002
Not sure of the area code try- 505-864-3565 or with the 575 area code.
Don't know but, Hope this helps!

Chili Powder Update
Wow - thanks to everyone who gave such good suggestions for getting the chili powder. I will probably go with Hatch chili powder as there's a web site for New Mexico products and it's included. For what it's worth, the Hatch powders are the cheapest on ebay, of all places - sold by a NM store.
I believe what made the Adam's Market powder so special is that it was ground in the back of the store (according to my husband). Thanks again everyone. We miss Mountainair, where my mother-in-law was born and raised. She is long gone, but the rest of the family still pines for NM. You can't go home again.
