Railrunner to Santa Fe
Well folks, it's just about December, which is when the railrunner is supposed to be making its first scheduled service to the Capitol and Railyards.
Anyone know exactly when any Joe can get on the bird train to Santa Fe county for the first time?

I heard yesterday that they are very close to their goal of mid-December but were not quite ready to set a firm date yet.
All the construction work up here looks pretty well completed.

This is a quote from from the President of the ABQ Arts Business Assoc:
"December 12th, 2008 will launch the Inaugural Train ride to Santa Fe!
Events for this celebration are scheduled for Friday, Dec. 12th and Sat. Dec 13th.
The train will begin in Belen at 9:15 a.m. on Dec. 12th and proceed North (of course) to each of the Rail Runner Express train stations to pick up Governor Bill Richardson, additional New Mexican Dignitaries and Invitees Only.
The train will arrive Santa Fe around noon and will be greeted with mariachis, ribbon cutting and speeches at the Rail yard.
The ceremony and speeches are open to the public.
The first train back to Albuquerque will leave around 2 p.m.
On Dec. 13, 2008 the trains are open to the public leaving Albuquerque(departure times are undetermined at this time) and arriving in Santa Fe with a continuation of events including Railyard Christmas market 9a.m. to 3 pm, Farmers Market 8 a.m. to noon, Rail Runner Fair at Market Station 9am to 3 pm and Mariachis, special Ochestra, school performances, Flamenco, and additional entertainment."

Well, that's interesting ... and good news! Just yesterday I heard on the radio that they were not ready to set a date yet.

I'd take it with a grain of salt... I'm not sure why an Arts Director would have proprietary knowledge like that. It is interesting though.

I wonder if they'll be offering free rides(?), like they did when the RR first opened...

It sucks that the gov signed a bill that allows state employs to continue to drive state cars for personal use to and from work. They should be mandated to ride the train.

The only vehicles we should be paying for are police cars and fire-trucks. (of course mass-transit as well)
