Hello,

I'm looking into hunting feral pigs or javelina and need some inforamtion like the where-abouts they may be found. If you know someone I may contact, that would be best.

Thanks ahead of time.

Feral pigs can be found down around Animas in the bootheel. You will probably need permission from a Rancher. You can also apply to hunt javelina through the New Mexico Dept of Game and Fish. Deadline to apply I think is in February. There are tons of javelina in and around Lordsburg, Animas, and Hatchita.

Talking wild hogs eastern NM ..hunting..etc..

This is in relation to my wanting a seperate forum for hunting etc. for NM.
Other states that are popular should also have them..

Anyone here ever hunt for them thar HOgs..?
and if so, are they as good eating as the ones in Arkansas
Also what areas are good to hunt for them...

I wasn't able to go javelina hunting this year, but would like to hunt these critters..

Hunter wold,

There use to be a pretty good population in the lincoln. When I was younger we would run into different herds of them all the time. Once you found areas were they rooted it was not that hard to locate them. They were very spooky though. I don't get up there like I use too. So I don't know if they are still around. They were all from local area escaped hogs.

I may be willing to give you a starting point if you are willing to hike. Trough pm of course.

I know a guy from Roswell that hunts hogs along the Pecos river bottoms, he uses curs with a pit bull catch dog and does quite well.

HW - when we were on the ranch in CA, we had quite a problem with them. They would tear up the vineyards - both grape and olive and always knew when we planted oats. They really are natures rototillers. We would thin them out every so often, the workers on the ranch loved every inch of them, literally If you got one that wasn't really old and smelly (oooohhh....really rank smelling) they tasted great. We had hocks smoked, made sausage, and ham steaks. It really was good. Here's a few pics of them from the ranch. We always tried to thin out the boars.
