Essex, Ranger, Enterprise, Maine, Nautilus, etc. have all been used multiple times; I think
Enterprise may have been used as many as 5 times (not counting starships.. )
Other names such as Arizona will never be used again because of their historic significance.
I thought this 10 minute clip is kinda neat as it's off the History Channel the WW2 the 1941 Battleship battle between the Bismarck (German) vs the Hood (British).
Pipeweld, Mike and 6/3, thanks for the history lesson, photos/vids and clarifying the name issue It's amazing they moved the NM before Dec. 7th, 41! These new Subs lately ARE more like "starships" LOL

My father was a Coastie Chief back in the anti-rum-runner days and a friend of his was Modoc's
Gunnery Officer. I first heard this story from an actual eyewitness when I was 9 or 10.
The third photo down on this official Coast Guard site is my father.

I wondered where the Modoc name came from or what it meant. I think that's pretty cool that it's an honorable Tribal name What a proud history for the Coast Guard!
And Mike, your dad looks to be a Very tall {and distinguished} man, say 6/3 at least {LOL Harry! } Thanks for sharing all of that with us
