Kinda cool story about the U.S. Navy newest ''Attack Submarine'' the USS New Mexico will be christened this weekend at Newport News Virginia shipyards where it was built. NM Rep Heather Wilson will give the address there to represent New Mexico.

Default The Battleship (BB-40) New Mexico's bell is at UNM

She had been transferred to the Atlantic a few months prior to the attack
on Pearl Harbor. She was returned to the Pacific and went on to serve with
distinction for the rest of the war.

I think the principals of the architecture firm Mullen Heller (husband and wife) have the anchor chains outside their home in Ridgecrest (used as a fence/border).

I love those battleships as they could blast a ship out of the water 30 miles away on the horizon although they are obsolete now with Aircraft Carriers with the F-18 Hornet fighter jets going to attack and Tomahawk missles that can strike a ship or target 700 niles away.

My first duty station out of Boot Camp was my A-School in New London, Conn which is a HUGE sub base and i went on a tour of a SSN sub and it was like being on a Space Ship and there deffinately is no picture window like the 70's show ''Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea''. I could only walk in it with my head always down or i'd hit the overhead as there's no extra space to spare on them. Definately not for a claustrophobic person.

Very cool indeed! I'd not heard of them giving the same name to a battleship and then a sub later like that; {I always thought they retired the names} what an honor.

Very cool! Mike Horrell, thanks for posting the photo of the battleship. Obsolete or not, it's a very impressive vessel!

Actually it has been done with the first Battleship Texas launched 1892 became the San Marcus to allow for naming of the second Battleship Texas (BB 35) launched 1912 and now on display at The San Jacinto Battleground, Then the SSN 775 Virgina class Sub The Texas launched in 1975.
