Default Bernalillo

Bernalillo will experience some major changes within the next year.

The RailRunner, a commuter train between Bernalillo and Belem, will begin operating in mid July.

There's a major housing development going in on Hwy 528 where the old dairy used to be.

Traffic on Hwy 550 will become even more congested.

On the plus side, we love the NM eats at Abuelita's restaurant and the entertainment at The Range.

For inspiration, I take an occasional walk along the Rio Grande at the Coronado Monument.

I like Bernalillo.

Default Bernalillo

Hello -

My wife and I just moved to Bernalillo and bought a brand new semi-custom home (I can send you photos of the area if you are interested) in the town of Bernalillo for just over $100 per foot on almost 1/4 of an acre(cheap when compared to new houses in north ABQ area!).

We have fantastic views of the Sandia mountains, and the location allows us to walk to the Rail Runner station, new Flying Star Cafe (and associated retail), Starbucks, the Bernalillo farmers market, and it is just a little longer walk (or bike ride) to the Range Cafe, the local grocery store, the local Ace Hardware store etc.

We have great access to the river for walks or canoeing and the Placitas hiking trails are a short drive.

Bernalillo has two new Rail Runner (our new commuter train) stations with service to Albuquerque, Belen, Los Lunas and Santa Fe in a couple of years.. A day pass for the rail runner is only $2. Or a month pass is $35 so this seems to be a good option for someone who wants to save a little on gas. I am a Realtor so I have to drive most of the time unfortunately. We did try the train recently on a Saturday...went to downtown Albuquerque...found a music festival...and had dinner...it was a mucho fun time.... But I have been pleasantly surprised that the commute to my I-25 and Jefferson office in Albuquerque only takes 13 minutes from my home in Bernalillo.

We decided to move to Bernaillo because it felt like a small town vs. one of the huge subdivisions on the outskirts of Albuquerque or Rio Rancho. Bernalillo has traceable roots back to the 1600's and Native American roots back much further than that. Bernalillo is up and coming! It is squashed between Resevations to the North and South, the upscale Northern Rio Rancho developments (new city center, hockey arena, Mariposa development) and beautiful (but expensive) Placitas. Sure, Bernalillo will have some maturing to do in the upcoming years, but until then we will enjoy it's quirkyness.

Hope this helps. Contact me if you want some photos or would just like to find out more.
