I feel very safe here also but I have been a victim of crime several times in different NM towns. I sometimes feel that most of the other states are alot worse when it comes to crime because I feel so safe here.

I guess if you want to live in a place with less crime but is overall more dangerous because of, say, weather or natural disasters then you're certainly welcome to do so.

Come on..... I don't know where you live in El Paso, but there is a good chance that if you drank a few beers you could pee in New Mexico from your house

I have not been to El Paso in over 10 years. I use to have some friends down there, and spent some time on Fort Bliss....

Yeah Poncho, That is why I was shocked... things seem rather peaceful and calm. I happen to be on the N.E. side of El Paso, and used to visit L.C. all the time.. have not been there recently, so I guess I need to go check it out and see whats going on in Las Cruces.

Maybe it seems peaceful because if you're in a city with a murder rate of 6 per 100,000 and there are only 33,000 people and all the murders were gang or domestic, you hear of 3 murders. If you're living instead in a city with the same murder rate of 6 per 100,000 but the population is 2 million, you'll be reading or hearing of murders all the time.

The state may be dangerous but Las Cruces, among other NM cities have been recently rated among the safest. Go figure . . .

Las Cruces is one of the safest cities and El Paso is also in the top 3 most safest big cities and they are only 40 mins. apart. I guess I never thought about this, I always knew Las Cruces didnt have much crime though.

It really depends on a lot of factors. Like walking down dark alleys off Central in Albuquerque in the middle of the night is probably not as safe as going to Cottonwood Mall on Saturday afternoon...

AZGOLFER is on a distinguished road
For the size of the ABQ metro area, it seems to me, to be a very safe place to live...I was there again the other day, and I turned on the local news and over the weekend just one shooting and no murders etc...in fact, the whole time I was there, I did not even here one emergency siren! Here in PHX, everyday people are murdered, robbed, shot, kidnapped etc....it's becoming a "war-zone" around here...so I would feel very safe if I lived in ABQ....which hopefully will be very soon.
